I'm going to take a real walk on the wild side and put it down to a number of older posters going and a number of new posters arriving - a changed demographic so to speak.

I hope so. But a lot of it has to do with the Fame Game too. Tyson is still really well known and seems to be getting rated higher and higher every year. He'll be nailed-on Top 3 by 2040.

True, but other guys like Lewis and the Clits will be sliding up too etc.

Tho admittedly Tyson is more famous than anyone since Ali you'd think.

Fair or not Tyson has done an amazing job of rehabilitating his public image and also himself. During the peak of his troubles in the 90s many people probably didn't expect him to live past 50, Mike included.

Also Mike is not just alive now but in incredible shape for his age, he looks like he could still KO some low ranked Heavies. That plays into the image of him being a superhero figure still.

Sort of like you drop apple on an alpine peak, and a foot this way, a foot that way, it ends up in Germany, Italy or France.

This is a thread where I can easily like widely differing opinions so long as they fairly consider all the factors.

Excellent post, I just have two problems.

Was he? I can't say that about the pre-Bonecrusher Tim, he was a top contender (and two time champ) for good reason. He would've been the best opponent Tyson would have fought in the 80s imo, even after the aforementioned Smith fight. I realize that might not be a popular opinion. I don't think Spinks would have gotten past Tim, and I think Tucker would have had his share of problems with him, too.

    Joe Louis.

As I mentioned, overall a great, thoughtful post @Blofeld

Tim Witherspoon vs Mike Tyson is a genuine tragedy that it never happened. It’s a shame neither fighters careers ever were on track at the same time.

Larry still would not have been able to hold him off and would still get stopped.

...and possibly killing someone when dropped from that height. No Sir Isaac Newton fairy tale there.

Depending on the victim, could possibly even start a war - subject to the incident’s deemed “gravity”.

Similar result with Holmes maybe lasting a little longer, not too many rounds though.

Holmes stops him the same way Douglas did
