It's nothing to do with that but saying "Golovkin is top 10 H2H of all time" when his opposition was for the most part unremarkable. And Middleweight division has such a rich history of talented tough fighters is a stretch. As I said would you make him the favourite over the likes of Toney ? RJJ ? Monzon ? SRR ? Hagler ? Hopkins ? Tiger ? Greb ? Etc and theres many more aswell. People need to actually look at the history of Middleweight division before claiming such a thing.
A very good fighter. You know a very good fighter because you just feel he would be difficult for anyone, ever, around his weight class. People will argue about whether or not he is all time top five this or that head to head (like anyone could possibly really know) but the main thing is that Monzon, Hopkins, Hagler, whoever, they are having a tough evening with this guy whether they drop a close decision or win a wider one. It would be very very hard to fight him.
Not so sure there is nobody that could make easy work of Golovkin. Certainly wouldn't pick anybody to. But in boxing there is always that guy who seems to have your number. Would anybody expect Foreman to toy with Frazier? Would anybody pick RJJ to shutout Toney? Would anybody expect Pacquiao to blowout Barrera? For Forrest to school Mosley? There are instances of very high level fighters in their primes just having a terrible styles matchup and they just get pasted.
Yes, I did try quite hard in that post to make it clear that nobody knows but to be absolutely clear: Nobody who has ever been born or ever will be born will know with meaningful efficacy exactly what would happen if Golovkin fought multiple ATG fighters in dream matches. They aren't real.
It’s all a matter of opinion when it comes to H2H rankings. I know my assumptions are not build on a case of who he fought, but rather a case of what could have been. I have no problem with people having a different opinion and obvious GGG wouldn’t rank high on an ATG list build on resume. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see prime GGG against elite opposition.
I thought he did everything right against a devastating unorthodox puncher like Lemeiux. When Lemeiux did connect cleanly GGG took it, and even came back stronger. GGG systematically took him apart and destroyed him. Tricky Saunders did it his way, and GGG did it his way, with a devastating stoppage. Both impressive, but i thought GGG did an excellent job.He fought responsibly, which is part of being elite.
Exactly this. It's why I think a Tiger / GGG fight would be one sided. Golovkin knew which guys to brawl and which guys to pick apart.
One of the best to ever lace them up. Clearly the best MW in the world from about 2015 until 2022. Thats a solid run and makes him one of the more accomplished. Performances against Canelo, Jacobs, Macklin, Murray, Brooke, Geale, Rubio, Lemmy, Derevyenchenko, Murata all prove his worth in the ring.
It's tough for me to rate him highly as some do based on the fact he didn't take nearly any of the challenges available to him outside of Canelo. He made the comment of being able to beat anyone from 154 to 168 and got really quiet when Ward wanted to fight. Not to mention hes the only guy i see getting a pass for dragging a guy up from a lower weight....After the 1st Canelo fight he pretty much refused to face anyone of use aside from Derevyanchenko including other, younger champs in his division when he could have quickly unified the division rather than sit in his hands waiting on Canelo. That was really disappointing from a guy so many were touting as great. Can you blame me for wanting to see that greatness rather than hear about it? Lol Great middleweight for his era, but not really in the all time sense, he didn't do himself any favors historically.
The way i look at it, GGG is a current elite. He has elite boxing skills, stamina, power, chin, and physical strength. He also happens to have tied the all time middleweight title defense record of 20 with (18) being by KO, 22 over all defenses, 20 by KO, when counting his 2nd reign. To top it off, he was in a trilogy fight with boxings biggest star and arguably got the better of him, all while being the much older fighter. So i would say he definitely would be on the all time middleweight all star team, it would be a safe bet to say he can hang with most of the best of all time, he may or may not win, but he belongs in there with them. I don't know what number i would put him at and it doesn't really matter, but he is definitely one of the best and a middleweight legend. I mean, it would be fun just matching him with the best of the 90's, Jones, Toney, McCallum, Benn, Eubank, Nunn, Jackson, McClellan. Thats just the nineties.
I remember Ricky Hatton being interviewed and he was asked about GGG. The response was along the lines of "he's a monster can you imagine coming home and finding Golovkin in bed with your Mrs.. You'd tuck the fkr in wouldn't you!"
Very high. He beat Canelo in that first fight. Possibly the second? Def not the third. He's an all time great.
