How well would Wilder have done in the 70's, 80's and 90's?

Do you think he'd have simply 1-shotted everything in his path or would they take him apart due to his lack of skills? I'm leaning towards the latter as a lot of the top guys back then had skills to neutralize punchers especially ones who weren't skilled.

Wilder would be good and dangerous in all those mentioned eras, I think he would always be somewhere in the Top 10...

Wilder has only beaten 2 top 10 ranked opponents in his career. I repeat, wilder has only beaten TWO ranked heavyweights in his entire career.

He'd be a non factor, there wasn't a dearth of American heavyweight talent like there was in his era, so he probably doesn't get the level of promotional support to move him into a title shot and then the protection to keep it like he did.

Especially as early in his career he was being decked by guys like Sconiers and Nicols you'd have to question if he'd be able to remain undefeated trying to fight his way to the top in a deeper more competitive era.

But then again maybe being tested early in his career would of made him a better fighter in the long run, but we can only judge him based on the fighter he was not some hypothetical version.

It all depends how they protect him in some stage of his career.
He almost lost in his pro career when he fight Sconiers.
That's why they probably was soo afraid to give him fight vs punchers.

He probably will end knockedout too if fight with Povetkin in Moscow happend.

Wilder is dangerous but he is poor at fighting on back foot and he is not soo strong. He is in top because he was carry smart.

For what it's worth, Teddy Atlas talked about this in an interview.

I honestly don't know how Wilder would land on these old Murican heroes. They barely took any punches back then, lol. All the CTE is just from falling off motorbikes.

That's quite damning considering the 'top 10' in his era, wouldn't even match the quality to others.

The 90's with the likes of Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, Mercer, Morrison, Ruddock, Tua, etc etc. would have seen Wilder take more losses than his current resume has. The 90's for sure had some absolute killers. Then of course the 80's has prime Iron Mike, teak tough Holmes early doors, teak tough Tim Wetherspoon, teak tough Tony Tucker, even some of the UK HW's back then could have posed Wilder a few problems like Bruno and Gary Mason, both huge punchers in their own right and the 70's has numerous top 10 ATG's in the likes of Ali, Foreman, prime Holmes, Frazier, then there's the likes of Norton, Shavers, Lyle who would all pose a problem for Wilder. I think Wilder would pick up a title in any of those eras at the appropriate time but wouldn't hold on to it for too long either.

In those HW eras Wilder wouldve been like Randall Bailey. Always has that 1 punch KO power but easy to work around. Ranked somewhere between 5-10 in all those eras

Randall Bailey is an excellent comparison never thought of that one before.

Likely. Presuming he didn't just avoid live bodies and fight carefully selected glass jawed fighters to build up a manufactured KO record and avoid getting starched himself -- as he and his management did in this century.
