Obviously they both could hit but not in the same class as Foreman, Shavers etc. Was Norton s power, how hard he could hit, any where near Frazier s?
Norton had that crab like posture. So he only punched with his left, might as well have amputated his right arm altogether. That's how bad it was. And since he was running offence and defense at the same time with only his left arm, his punches did not generate nearly as much power as foreman or Tyson. He tended to flick as opposed to delivering power shots from his legs. Edit: Norton had a decent right per additional comments.
I think Ken had just a touch more power in the right. Joe of course had it over him on the left hook, but I think a lot of it had to do with accuracy. Joe timed his hook fantastically well, perhaps better than any other heavyweight. Norton also had the jab all day over Frazier; in fact, I feel that Ken would have won many of his closer fights had he used his jab a LOT more.
Frazier had feats like dropping and badly hurting Ali, or stopping Chuvalo (though George mentioned he was damaged goods due to orbital bone injury.)
It’s close either way. I’d probably favour Frazier’s hook but Norton’s right hand had good pop to it. I don’t regard either as dangerous punchers.
Joe was definitely more famous for his left hook than Kenny s right hand, but yes, Norton was no feather fist.
I think Joe Frazier’s left hook, especially when he had the chance to wind up for it was harder than any punch Norton threw. Aside from that one punch however I think most of the power that came from their other shots was likely pretty close. But that winging left hook that Joe Floored Ali with in their first fight looked vicious especially in slow motion
