No idea. Frank is very clever at swerving questions like this until everyone forgets. He did the same with the fury fights. The old we don’t know yet, they have half an idea within days. my guess is it likely did sub 75k which is still more than they would have got in rights fees
They didn’t announce the other fights scheduled for the card as they knew 3/4 weeks ago it may be pulled due to number. That’s how Hearn etc heard the rumour as a few managers and trainers mentioned the hold up. boxxer didn’t want to commit to purses if they had to pull it. Issue now is they have a 4 fight card that Sky execs will be looking at and saying how are we spending money on this.
Great card tonight from the HOME of Boxing, the WORLD FAMOUS YORK HALL on the only show in Town, Live on the biggest Boxing Broadcaster SKY SPORTS. Meanwhile, up 2 two dozen subscribers may tune into Channel 429 on Sky to watch Jack Catterall.
Let's be real. Both are up against the England v South Africa rugby and the Man Utd match. Suspect even Welsh and Scottish fans will be tuned into the rugby hoping to see England get turned over. Incredible that there's two boxing cards fighting for relevance tonight - it's a night for die-hards only.
I know Sky have had discussions about ditching boxing a number of times over the years. Following HBO and Showtime walking away from boxing, I think the whole sport on a worldwide scale could face a massive crisis if Sky do the same, which looks as likely as it ever has. They’re only in it for the PPV revenue and they’ve got absolutely nothing on the horizon.
No interest in Egg Chasing or Mr Ten F a g s Man Utd FC. I will be tuning into Sky Sports tonight for live boxing from the York Hall.
I asked someone (who usually sorts me tickets for Boxxer events) about getting tickets for this nearly 3 weeks ago and the reply I got was 'you need them mate'.
Ben Shalom has done no interviews this week apart from one on TalkSport. He also did no interviews during his last show which was also at York Hall headlined by Caroline Dubois. Less than 4 weeks away from their next show in Wolverhampton and no other fights announced other than Denny vs Signani, Azim vs Petitjean, and a couple of ticket-sellers in 6 rounders. Is the pressure getting to Ben Shalom?
Boxxer / Sky is exposed to many dirty tricks from people who do everything to prevent them from organizing boxing events. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes.
This content is protected Kind of defeats the purpose of going to Wolverhampton then. Is this to do with an injury then? The only other planned card is Billam-Smith vs Masternak. Hopefully they can still make the fight against Ricky Summers as that would be a very good step-up for Whittaker.
The main events started long after the football and rugby. I'm sure most people only tune in for the main events so it really wasn't a big deal. People who watched rugby or football in the pub might just have stayed on for boxing. You can tell the importance of the two cards via BBC Sport though. Catterall near the top of the news because of the potential Taylor fight; Chamberlain gets a mention but you have to go looking for it.
