Can’t remember which trainer witnessed it but it was on YouTube an interview, Tyson basically knocked out Lennox in sparring, up in Catskills New York on the first day. They both were amateurs at the time. Doesn’t surprise me as Lewis’ style is tailor made for prime Tyson. And we saw what the likes of McCall and Rahman did to Lewis
The trouble with sparring is that a random journeyman could’ve dropped, rocked and stopped any of your favourite fighters because sparring is essentially playing with fire for a reason.
Not Quite True. The first time they sparred as kids Mike did beat on Lennox. They thought he wouldn't want to spar again But He was up & ready to go & he said Ive worked him out now. From then on Lennox dominated Mike in sparring. They are the words spoken by Cus D'Amato
Greg Page put Tyson on his rear in sparring. I guess that means Tyson ducked him because from this we know Greg would have KO’d Tyson in a real fight, haha.
Pure absolute fantasy. Tyson never ever dropped Lewis during sparring. He may or may not have had the better of it.
Whether it actually happened is perhaps debatable but it could have certainly happened. Mike had a fully developed adult mans body as a teenager, Lennox had a lanky less than developed body into his early 20s. One guy turned pro at 18 the other at 23.
It isn't debatable as there are various witness testimonies. That's enough for me. Another Tyson myth.
Absolutely. And how come we never heard the Tyson braintrust back then talking about the koby2 loss tyson had to Al Evans?
Mike was not in his prime he was 16. And the key point here is that many think Lennox is better just because he beat a shell of Tyson in 02’. Prime for Prime, Tyson wins. Lennox at the time of the sparring was knocking everyone out and him and his trainer went all over the world to find the best guy to spar and it ended with Tyson KO’ing him. Lennox’s weakness was a hard right hand, that’s exactly what McCall and Rahman did against a Prime Lewis
The times I've read about the sparring, it's always been, Tyson got the better of Lennox. Didn't ko him, just got the better. Lewis came back and learnt from the previous spar and handled himself well. I've never seen it where Tyson kod him.
You've obviously never read Definitely True Gym Tales. An exhaustively researched collection of secret sparring sessions that can be found only online.
