Biggest in terms of antecipation, number of viewers, repercussion...

Surely Frazer vs Ali I and Ali vs Foreman has to be there obviously, Holyfield vs Tyson I too....

    What else ?

    Frazier vs Ali I
    Ali vs Foreman
    Joe Louis vs Schmeling II

Is Dempsey vs Firpo one of those ????

    Okay, I will go first.

    Frazier vs Ali I
    Ali vs Foreman
Joe Louis vs Max Schmeling II
    Holyfield vs Tyson I
    Ray Leonard vs Duran II
    Mayweather vs Pacquiao
    Dempsey vs Firpo
    Dempsey vs Tunney I
    Johnson vs Jeffries

I really don't know about number 10... Marciano vs Louis, I guess was pretty big.

Tyson Holyfield was a big fight but not an anticipated megafight at the time it actually happened, the rematch(due to the upset result) and the Spinks and Lewis fights were bigger at their respective times.

I would also nominate DLH vs Mayweather and Trinidad

    Hagler vs Leonard

Hearns vs Hagler, even though it didn't last long always struck me as a huge fight, particularly with the passing of time.

Holmes vs Ali was massive for all the wrong reasons.

Lionel Rose vs Fighting Harada had folks parading in the streets of Melbourne. ATG fight too, one of the best I’ve ever seen.

The most significant fight may have been Johnson winning the title. People lost their minds and some there lives over that one.

This task is almost impossible, and you can't answer it properly without doing some real research, and even then, you won't get there.

DirtyDan has picked Floyd vs McGregor up above, which is reasonable given the amount of money it generated. But actually, it's estimated that fewer saw that fight than saw Zhang-Joyce II. Furthermore, the same number of people listened to Dempsey-Tunney II on the radio. So is taht fight smaller because it had this colossal radio audience? Surely Tunney-Dempsey is more seminal than McGregor-Floyd?

I guess the simplest way to do it is to forget seminal and such notions and just go by viewing figures - but they are really hard to track down reliable ones (especially when Bob Arum is in the mix ). Plus that radio problem. Plus whatever the hell you do with Johnson-Jeffries.

    Really ? That is big.

Let me ask you this though, you meant the aboriginal people in Melbourne or everybody ?
Legit question from somebody that knows nothing, not making any judgment or anyhting..

I meant more the pre fight building in the fight, by the way. Big fights in terms of expectation.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao was huge no matter how uneventful the fight was.

Raw numbers can be misleading too. I'm sure a bigger number of people watch cricket in India, or whatever they like to watch in China, than the World Cup football final match but hey, we know which one is bigger.

I would not put Floyd vs Conor up there because it lacks importance. If you do a history book on boxing.. that fight won't be one of the major points of the book.

Yes, Lewis vs Tyson was huge. We don't talk much about this fight because of other reasons but I remember watching it with my grandfather.
I was a kid and remember that it happend the next day after England beat Argentina in the world cup, and remember thinking wow the english fans must be happy..
My grandfather felt asleep during the fight though.
