Does Jorge Linares have a Hall of Fame-worthy career?

Happy retirement to him, he was great. Would have been interesting to see what a fight between him and Teo could have been though

 

In the past, no, but in this era, probably.

If boxing continues as it is (top fighters avoiding each other and fighting 1-2 times a year), we will see fighters with less impressive résumés than fighters of old, so Linares will eventually sneak into the HOF.

Óscar Larios, Rocky Juárez, and Jesús Chávez were washed. Kevin Mitchell, Nihito Arakawa, Anthony Crolla, Mercito Gesta, Abner Cotto and Gamaliel Díaz were all different flavors of mediocre (by world championship standards) contender or paper titlist.

The rest of his W column is trash.

I've always liked him, quite a bit in fact, but can't in conscience say he ought to get in. Unless we're saying just anyone can by dint of being a 3 division champ, in which case the line is long.

Linares was a sublime offensive fighter in his prime--his blistering combos were an absolute thing of beauty--but he falls short of that hallowed fraternity.

 

Close, but no cigar. Always lost to the top tier. Good fighter and seems like a great guy. Would not bother me if he got in.

It's actually an interesting case study in the power personalities can have above and beyond actual athletic merits. You can contrast Linares with Khan, as their chins are similarly vulnerable, and they're probably overall not far off from being the same level of fighter (Khan is faster but Linares isn't slow; Linares is more skillful and accurate although Khan isn't some wild punch spammer) - but Jorge always conducted himself with more humility and class; hence beloved by fans whereas Khan is sneered at
