Star Wars Day, aka Cinco de Mayo eve in 2024.

Undisputed super middleweight championship of the world at stake (Álvarez's seventh, fourth, fifth and seventh defenses of the WBC, IBF, WBO, and WBA titles respectively). Munguía is the WBO mandatory and #2 ranked challenger by the WBC for his countryman; absent from both the IBF and WBA top 15.

Álvarez is six years oler and four inches shorter than Munguía.

    They have two common opponents:
    1. Liam Mark Smith - kayoed in 9 by Canelo in 2016 and defeared via UD12 by Munguía two years later.
    2. Jorge Alberto Cabrera Juárez - gave Canelo his first blemish in his rookie year with a four round split draw; was stopped in one minute by Munguía eleven years later.

Canelo hasn't been his old self for a couple of years but I still think he stops Munguia. Munguia is not exactly a defensive maven. He doesn't seem to mind getting hit and trading punches. Even against the current watered down version of Alvarez that's a bad idea. Canelo by mid-round stoppage.

    Decent fight.

I'd prefer Benavidez but at SMW this is the next best option for him.

Munguia is a live dog here. Certainly he’s no stiff like the last guy Canelo danced with.

    Good fight.

I think it is a mismatch. Canelo by brutal beating.. maybe corner stoppage.

It won’t happen as Munguia won’t fight off DAZN.

Munguia is fighting John Ryder next in January on DAZN as part of a co-promotion between Golden Boy and Matchroom. If Ryder has anything left after the Canelo beating, I have to back Ryder to beat Munguia.

Canelo still has 2 fights that have to be on Showtime PPV I believe.

I believe showtime boxing is history by the end of this year. Unless I'm wrong.

Canelo don't fight Mexicans, or so he says to avoid Benevidez.

If he does. Benevidez beats Canelo. Canelo knocks out Munguia in less than 3 rounds.

Showtime are done with non-PPV boxing. They will honour their contract with Canelo.

At least Munguia will actually try and make it a fight unlike Charlo. Problem is that he’ll be a much easier target for Canelo.

So that must mean no next week replay on regular showtime?

Thats a war in the making right there. Munguia hasn't looked that impressive at the higher weights but he's a big strong kid and he'd be right in front of Canelo and trade shot for shot, which would make for an exciting fight(better than that Charlo farce forsure). I hope they can make it happen on Cinco de mayo weekend.
