I think at that point in his life he was just concerned about escaping poverty and putting food on the table. If I remember correctly, he was actually homeless at one point. He needed money quickly and mma was the fastest way to do that. He's still living better than 99% of people on this planet, so he isn't doing too bad for himself.

This may be true but, if he is indeed declining before our eyes, than what he feels gets him into 70%+ condition may now only amount to 30%. It happens when you age (and abuse the hell out of your body). Diminishing returns. I remember Manny Steward claiming that Lewis trained as hard for Vitali as he did for the first Holyfield fight.

You don't understand, the dollars involved in the contest is an indication regarding the value of the combatants.

How would Fury vs the local bus driver sell?

Let me do the thinking for you.

Initially, the notion is enticing of a boxing heavyweight champion vs a bus driver but it would lose steam the moment it reached minimal combat sport intelligence amongst promoters and trainers in the game.

In this instance, amongst the lads in the game of combat sports, Fury vs Ngannou was worth the squeeze.

He would be top ten possibly. Not the reigning champ. We really don't know how he would have done, having a good showing against an undisciplined and lazy pathetic Fury who doesn't take anything seriously doesn't prove much. Fury expected such an easy fight against an MMA guy and he paid for it, never underestimate an elite striker no matter what martial art they come from.

Truth is boxers are pu$$ies compared to mma fighters, you don’t climb up the ufc ladder without taking on the best in the division. Someone like ngannou has zero quit in him and the mentality of a warrior. Boxers quit on the stool. Fury quit yesterday, he was scared of being dropped again and didn’t even go near Francis in the last round.

he would have lost a national or Euro title to someone like Carlos Takam probably

I think his route worked out OK for him…

It's true the mma fighter is nothing like Usyk and hits harder.

Fury won't take Usyk lightly (probably), or AJ or anyone else, and so will likely be in better shape and perform much better.

Fury humiliated himself with this stupid fight and arrogance, but people are writing him off too quickly.

Like a lot of people he saw an MMA fighter and thought boxing skills were so superior. He saw Jake Paul beat up a bunch of them and thought it was a given. Problem is that those were old shot fighters and this opponent wasn't retired. He also wasn't some novice fighter but the HW UFC champion who was basically a puncher with poor wrestling.

When people say this fighter was a novice, it's like people saying Conor had never boxed before against Mayweather when in fact he trained boxing/punching all the time and was a hands striker in UFC almost exclusively, so he had plenty of experience close enough to boxing to be competitive.

the worst one I can remember recently is Luke Campbell chinning Ryan Garcia and making him fall on his own arm, then going right back to his tippy tappy amateur stance

I don't think this fight is a big deal. Ngannou was quite a bit better than any of us would have thought and Fury looks like he prepared for an exhibition.

I've seen Fury look like absolute **** before and then come back in his next fight and smash Wilder/Wlad

I'm sorry but even a 30% HW world champion should easily beat a guy who's never had a professional boxing match in his life

    Let's put things into context

    That's that moment.

Cambell at least threw punches to garcía's head trying to KD him again, not very greedy, but he threw punches. We are talking about gnannou throwing NOTHING until the round ended.

This. Thrown Ngannou in with Zhang and see how badly he gets slept.

FN did great, but Fury made him look good
