Fury dragged the whole boxing world. He’s an embarrassment. His whole family practically ran from the arena. There was an interview with Tommy where he was almost crying. Joshua got stopped by a world title contender. The HW champ got dropped by and arguably lost to a boxing debutant. Spin it how you wish, this will be burned into the history of boxing, AJ/Ruiz won’t get a look in.
Exactly this There's no doubt Fury was a great boxer but the last few years have been an absolute circus. He needs to start taking things seriously or retire. Since John has been involved more and more Tyson's decisions and performances have got worse. It was better when Fury was fighting in USA and John couldn't go over
He might be shot, considering the life he has leads outside the ring it will eventually catch up on him. That being said, he's had many sub-par performances in his career and I think he needs to be highly motivated to be anywhere near his best. I don't think he took the Ngannou fight as seriously as he said he did.
Of course…using illegal elbows and rabbit punches on your way to robbing a boxing debutant is to be applauded. I expect nothing less from you, NEETSHEAN
I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Hearn tries to shoe-horn AJ vs Ngannou onto the Fury-Usyk undercard, should it ever happen.
I thought he looked poor against Whyte as well until the KO. Most seem to talk about him dominating but I saw two out of shape guys struggling to get their shots off.
Of course it's not a debate, Ruiz had had 33 pro fights before fighting Joshua, Ngannou had zero before fighting Fury.
Comparisons? AJ lost to Ruiz who was a fat pudding limited training camp and who AJ had hours of tape on and the cards heavily stacked in his favour. Fury won a contentious decision against the hardest puncher ever although he’s never boxed in the professional ring he had all the tools to beat Tyson, trainers, supplements, tape, dietitian, doctors, S&C , size and strength. Put the two pictures side by side and see which one looks worse. Embarrassing as it is for Fury, who Father Time, lifestyle and injuries have clearly caught up to, it doesn’t take a way from the fact that AJ peak career lost to a fat blob of a fighter who was knocked down and went to points against a 40 year old shot fighter who had been out the ring for 2 years prior in Chris Arreola a fight after
The problem here is you're putting boxing on some mythical level that doesn't exist Boxing is punching Go watch francis, all he does in MMA is punch. He is a boxer he just does it in a cage and knows how to defend a takedown and a few submissions Just because he hasn't had a fight in a ring only matters to people who can't critical think. He's had many fights in a cage, punching people, the exact same thing he did last night, he was the most feared puncher in MMA and the heavyweight champion To be shocked he gave Fury a good fight is stupid, and to justify it with the fact he hasn't had a fight in a ring is equally as stupid
Agreed. Its not even like Ngannou was massively unorthodox or awkward to fight. He just came forward and countered and Fury had no answer. The way Fury wins that fight easily and stops him is by doing what he did in Chisora 2 but he just doesn't have that speed, power or gas tank anymore.
Even if you hate AJ's guts and lick the floor Fury walks on, i don't know how you can say with a straight face that AJ/Ruiz was a bigger embarrassment.
The visual below says it all about being red faced quitting against a very small out of shape opponent compared to the hard hitting unit Ngannou last night who fought and looked like he firmly belonged in the World Top 20 on his debut. This content is protected
My feeling is that he's done. Poor training would account for loss of speed and power but his poor coordination is somethingmore rooted. To have looked like that in front of so many ex-champions will have devastated him and that was apparent in his demeanour afterwards. The pure will in the guy might see him manage another comeback but if it's just for money he's playing with fire.
