I know AJ's despised by many on here and i'm not crazy about him myself but are 17 people actually crazy? Ruiz was a top 10 HW with a pro boxing record of 32-1 with the only loss being a narrow SD in another world title challenge going into the first AJ fight, and had had over 100 amateur fights. Ngannou, on the other hand, is mixed martial arts fighter with a pro boxing record of 0-0-0 going into the Fury fight with zero amateur experience. Deary me.
A combination of Fury; 1) being well past-prime and pretty much shot at this point, 2) not taking Ngannou seriously at all, and 3) not being motivated anymore after making in excess of $150m from his last 5 fights; is why he looked so horrifically bad against a boxing novice last night. He can't do anything about being shot, but if he fixes his mentality and takes the Usyk fight seriously, he has more than enough left to beat Usyk, who is also past-prime.
True, his credibility (and the value of the Usyk fight) is shot to pieces today though. Money will talk.
34% of voters voted for Ruiz KOing Joshua. A lot of them are the usual suspects. What happened yesterday was terrible for the sport. Fury vs Usyk isn't the fight it once was - an MMA guy knocked down the best heavyweight of our sport! Fury's aura and starpower would have decreased after yesterday. It will also be a big mark on his legacy. Let's see if he fights Usyk before March / April then - I have my doubts! Ngannou meanwhile has a lot of options. He can rematch Fury again and he can also fight Joshua or Wilder. A lot more people will be interested in boxing as Ngannou put up a tremendous performance last night. Ngannou also has signed a deal with the PFL on DAZN for £8 million a fight. He is in a great position.
Let’s hope that doesn’t happen, but I think you maybe right. They should 100% try to get him next for AJ it’s an absolute no brainer and could restore his reputation very quickly but no doubt they will take an easier option.
I’m not sure it has. People forget very quickly and now to the casual fan this seems to be a 50/50 rather than the bigger Fury potentially steam rolling him (which I didn’t agree with) which seemed to be the narrative. I still think it will be huge. Far bigger than last night interest wise.
People really think Joshua is scared of Ngannou? I've heard it all now. Joshua would have no problems beating Ngannou at all.
It just kinda shows where the money is though. If you were Ngannou would you take that money for MMA or have another go at boxing, where he could probably treble it after last night and take less punishment?
I think it is still a big fight. Boxing fans do have short memories. But the who’s who of the sporting world were at the event last night. Fury came in with the same conditioning as Giant Haystacks, got put on his arse and was blowing against a novice who had 0 boxing fights ever (amateur or pro). It is a horrible look for the sport and I think will have some impact.
I think this will happen. It is the right fight as well. Fury came up for a mess around last night. The next fighter has the benefit of having seen the backlash of this fight and will therefore prepare accordingly and KO him
Would be great if he knocks out of a few of the "top" heavyweights and leaves, says too easy and goes back to real fighting.
