It just goes to show how massively overrated this generation of heavies really are. The division was built around smoke and mirrors. Heavyweight boxing was exposed last night.
"What happened yesterday was bad for the sport" also you "a lot more people will be interested in boxing" So what is it? Good or bad for the sport? Confusing yourself again!.......and you say your in higher education??!! Something doesn't add up
Yet Spud Ruiz obliterated him in New York. I have it as a 50/50 fight after watching that last night and it would be the same next against any other fighter except Usyk.
I think we need to be careful not to overrate Ngannou too much based on last night. Yes he looked far better than expected and actually showed some boxing ability (and clearly has power) but Fury massively underestimated him and he benefitted from the element of surprise. He genuinely was pretty impressive though so credit where it's due. Really want to see more of him and I'm sure we will so let's hold off from declaring that he destroys a load of the top 10 etc
That's true. And I think people would have been refreshed at having Dan Hardy as a pundit rather than some of the usual helmets - there might be clamour for more crossover fights generally. MMA did itself zero harm last night. I think we also know Fury won't be fighting in a cage anytime soon.
Fury's 44 months removed from his last great performance (Wilder 2), Wilder 3 was a great fight but Fury had visibly declined there. The Whyte performance was good but that was 18 months ago and there's only so much you can take from schooling Whyte. The difference in Fury's mobility between the Chisora rematch in 2014 and the Chisora trilogy 8+ years later was huge. Add another 10+ months, another fight's worth of wear and that's where we are. You've been saying since the Wallin fight in 2019 that "Fury's legs are gone", so add another 4+ years and 20 lbs on top of that and he's going to be statuesque in comparison to his 2014/2015 speed prime.
It would be refreshing if he doesn’t do the usual boxing thing and take a lesser in between fight. He’s supposedly going to be WBC ranked so why not go straight to contention and call out Wilder? As limited as Ngannou is, the fact he’s a unit who can hit makes him a slightly less mobile Wilder so it’d be pretty entertaining.
