Carnera was as big as Ngannou and he wasn't exactly a world destroyer vs the 6 ft 180-200 pound heavies of his era. So was Ray Impellier or Buddy Baer who was 6'6 250 pounds. And they were all pro boxers who were top rated contenders and well acquainted with the squared circle. Carnera was heavyweight champion of the world at one point. And even in an era of 180, 190 pound heavies, they weren't ruling the roost.

And you don't need small all-time greats, really. Jerry Quarry, Gregorio Peralta, and especially Jimmy Young (not such a small man though) all clown him like a newborn.

Contesting this coke-ravaged shadow of a Fury is commendable, but not impressive in a historical sense. 99.9% of the division woed that they weren't in the ring with Tyson that night.

Size matters so you would need some really skilled small guys or some P4P monsters

Do not Ezzard Charles or Jack Dempsey or Floyd Patterson fit your criteria?

Stipe was definitely outboxing Ngannou is most of those exchanges. Slipping punches and landing hard counters. But every time Ngannou landed halfway clean on Stipe, you could see that it immediately rattled him and he was forced to use his wrestling. He had a very good strategy of using his feet, landing counters and mixing in his wrestling when the exchanges were getting too hot. It was a very good victory for him. But Ngannou's chin and power definitely bothered him and made that whole fight a high wire act. He was always one punch away from ending it.

It's not that surprising that Francis had the power and chin to be able to stay in the fight with Tyson for a while. What's shocking is that Tyson couldn't couldn't him with his boxing, move around him and then finish him later in the fight.

He wasn't trying to. He wanted to outbox Floyd and prove that he was the slicker fighter which he indeed did while he still had air in his lungs and gas in his tank, and pretty handily too.

Its more dangerous in the clinch but other than not that useful. Its mostly usless without strong body mechanics. Better throw arm punches.

He's got that Polska strength but strongmen aren't really built for combat. They're built for lifting super heavy weight and gassing quickly after doing so

Maybe you should rewatch that fight. Even Conor said how impressive and strong Floyd was in the clinch.

I remember it. Sugar ''Money'' Mac was outboxing Floyd, using his slickness walking him into educated counters but then he started to gas because he trained on whiskey and cocaine. He was running on fumes in the second half of the fight and size and strength ain't poop if you're all out of fuel.

Allot of hype around Francis, and rightfully so, but I wanted to analyse his performance in a vacuum so to speak, so to be able to compare him to the rest of the top dogs.

Firstly judging him as a novice, Ngannou was 10/10. He was brilliant in all aspects when looking at him through novice standards.

I am really excited to see what he does next so I wanted to analysis him through the "Top Dog Standard" to try and guess how he does against AJ, Usyk ect. Now this is incredibly unfair to Francis because he has only had 1 fight as a boxer , but you have to be harsh if you want to compare him to the seasoned pro's, fat Fury excluded.

    So Firstly the POSITIVES:
1)STRENGTH, The dude is as strong as a bull, can't see anyone besting him in the clinch game.10/10

2)POWER, His power does translate to boxing, I didn't think it would but it does. Its not a donkey kick type of power, but more of being hit in the face by a 5kg medicine ball travelling 20 mph type of power. 8/10

    3) CHIN, Hard to estimate from this fight alone, but from his UFC career we know its not Sh*te that's for sure 7+/10

    The NOT BAD/NOT GOOD:
    1) IQ: Very mixed, his cutting off the ring was good. He overreacted to feints though. His punch selection was good at times, but very predictable at other times. Can be improved. 5/10

    2) SPEED: Fast for his size, but being his size means that compared to a 230lber his speed is average or just below. 5/10

    3) FOOTWORK: Fairly fast for his size, but a bit predictable, although good at cutting off the ring, his bouncing was fairly energy inefficient at times and pointless for a man of his size.5/10

    The NEGATIVES:
    1) DEFENCE: Although he had his hands up well, very little defensive actions where done, allowing Fury to just land easy straights through the wide open guard. Most of the fight FN's defence was to throw punches back immediately and counter. Now ironically this led to FN's most successful moment in the fight, the KD, but it was over used, and became predictable and his biggest weakness. Fury would exploit this with feints forcing FN to throw counters way out of range and waste his punches. Fury also would simply Jab and pullback from the predictable response and at other times counter the counter.3.5/10

    2) CARDIO: His cardio didn't look bad in comparison to Fury because Fury's cardio was sh*te, fatigue kicked in very early for both fighters here. When you look at the punch output they averaged 22-23 punches per round. That is well below the 35-40 punch average for heavyweights. AJ averaged 39 vs Usyk's 50 in their first 12 round fight. 3/10

3)ACCURACY: Now according to compubox FN landed 25% of his shots, which is pretty average but that's not what I am criticizing. While the body shots where well placed, the placement of the headshots where poor, mainly hitting Fury high on the head . While these punches scored , they took away from FN's power. This in hindsight was expected as FN is used to fighting in MMA gloves and not in 10 oz gloves , but it is what it is. 3/10

Now I have only seen the fight once(live), as I am waiting for a good youtuber boy to post a good quality full fight version. I had Fury winning by a round or two, didn't have a pen and paper at the time. Fury disgraced the sport with this money grab and performance and general behavior for the last decade, but in fairness I believe he edged the fight, due to Ngannou's leaky defence allowing Fury to score too easily. With better Cardio FN would of been able to have more success and just out work, out of shape Fury. With more accuracy his power would of shown more and he would of won more rounds. He had 3 main weaknesses, if he just fixed one of those he would of won on the night imo .

All 3 of his weaknesses are easily exploited by the likes of Usyk, Joshua(non mentally broken version), Zhang , Hrgovic and will give them the advantage. There is no disgrace in this, Ngannou is an MMA fighter after all. But "if" he is able to improve in these areas then things become really interesting. Time is ticking, I wish him the best in whatever he does.

Thanks for reading, please leave a comment adding to what I have missed, or pointing out my mistakes(non grammatical) or just simply discuss.

From everything I've read and seen from Carnera he didn't have a third the athleticism that Ngannou possesses. Size wise, yes they are comparable but I still feel Francis is more unique as a specimen and overall athlete and that goes with comparing him to any of the pre-1950s giants who were known more for their size than movement or athleticism or even their ability to shift their weight into their punches.

Could those smaller men out point Ngannou? yes, within the rules of boxing it would be possible. Actually hurting him though? I can't see it based on the damage I've seen him sustain from other large men.

Also if they were clipped by Francis? Fury is lucky he was near 280 lbs himself, I can't see a man weighing a 100 pounds less than that getting back up from that hit.

I think anyone under Usyks size stands no chance against Ngannou. Yeah they can easily outbox him, but they’re not getting back up when he manages to land a hit. On top of that the dude has a granite chin so trying to hurt him is nearly out of the question for most guys.
