And then the Brown Bomber showed the gulf in class in the next round and put the pain on Two Ton Tony and stopped him. That's a bit different to what we saw Saturday night.
Tony Galento was the number 1 contender who had beaten Lou Nova (another no. 1 contender). Getting dropped by Galento is not the same as getting dropped by a 0-0 novice.
@AwardedSteak863 is getting closer and closer to me revoking his awarded steak and replacing it with a hot dog
This is a good argument. Say what you want about Galento's physique and crude technique, he earned his title shot as a legitimate contender and had legitimate punching power. Louis had a moment of carelessness and knocked him out in a fight he was otherwise dominating. Fury was dropped by a nearly 2 years inactive MMA fighter with 0 pro boxing experience, had a black eye, and went life and death with said MMA fighter. Besides, Galento's physique doesn't look any worse than some of the current active boxers we have with saggy chests, flabs, guts, etc with Fury being one of the worst examples. If we're being brutally honest, I could see Galento managing to beat a few contenders we've had in recent years such as Martin, Price, Chisora etc.
So by refusing to answer you acknowledge the answer s none. It matters completely. It is a specific sport with specific rules. To deny this in any form is illusion.
Do what you want. Galento was awful. You guys want to claim to think he was something special because he held a high ranking in an era where black fighters were avoided then go right ahead. He got lucky and caught an ATG. I don't care what he was ranked, he was NOT even close to Louis talent wise.
Galento's ridiculous looking physique is the main reason people dismiss him. Otherwise, the guy beat Nova, Ettore, Nattie Brown and Nathan Mann, and had a 70% KO rate. And beneath his fat, the man was muscular. Enough so to explode into leaping left hooks unexpectedly. Look at the quads and Forearms: https://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/pictures/t/tonygalento/01.jpg
That's it, mister! No more steak for thee! But seriously, what do you have against Galento. He was the Tua of his time. Iron chin, killer left hook and he was a legit contender who beat ranked contenders
I've never seen a money grab blow up in such a way. Lets be real though Fury's resume is truly shocking, he has one big name on it and thats Klitschko at the end of his career, in fact he never won another fight, don't get me wrong he has done well for himself, to have a resume so crap and be fighting for 10s of millions every fight now he has done what all boxers aim to do but on a legacy standpoint you can't rate him as a all time great with such a pisstake of a resume.
Can we not pretend this was the Fury that formed his reputation. It's been 8 years since the Wlad fight and 3 years since his other best performance in Wilder 2. All credit to Ngannou, it shouldn't have even mattered at all, but the fact remains Fury did look unusually bad in this fight. Also, as novice as he is, Ngannou is 6'4" and a formidable 270lbs. A trim 270lbs, when in fight shape. I don't really buy the idea that this translates to how guys like Marciano and Joe Frazier would have done against a prime Fury. Regardless though, yes of course Furys h2h stock takes a huge hit, how could it not.
