The site fee pays for Cordina's fee and for his opponent. Vazquez is a career featherweight moving up to super featherweight to fight the IBF champion. Imagine part of the site fee goes to pay him
Double world-title card and a couple of decent undercard fights including Ramla Ali rematching Guzman who knocked her out last time out. I would have preferred Cordina to fight Zelfa Barrett over Vazquez to be honest. @Trafford Wouldn't surprise me to hear people on here saying that the Monaco card was a small-hall show in-front of less than 1000 spectators ignoring the site fee like for the Florida show.
This rich playground small hall show certainly not capturing the imagination of the great British Public at all. Not surprised being yet another Matchroom mismatch with Cordina 1/12 odds on at the Bookmakers. That old Welsh Guy singing again would be the highlight of the show. Not a clue what he was singing about but it sounded great at his fight in Cardiff.
I like watching Cordina fight...however this is bizarre, fighting in Monte Carlo with a 300, yes 300!!!, capacity. I cannot work out why it's being held here - the undercard is beyond dreadful...in fact I doubt there has ever been a worse undercard for a world title fight. I'll be turning this on when the ring walk app pings me for Cordina's entrance...
The plan was for Cordina vs Barrett in Wales on September 30 but Cordina wanted more money. Bad move on his part as the Barrett fight would have increased his profile and would have been 3 back-to-back sell-outs in Cardiff. I have heard that Barrett's opponent on November 25 will be Jono Carroll. Even more bizarrely Barrett declined a pre-world title eliminator against Sugar Nunez with the winner fighting Rakhimov to become Cordina's mandatory.
Cordina v Barrett should have been a no brainer and as you said much more appealing. I get why MR are doing them, but these Monaco shows have a dreadful atmosphere and the rating for this will not be any good for DAZN IMO. It has to be a unification with Foster next you, otherwise it’s hard to see what route Eddie can take him down. IMO Barrett probably didn’t want anything to do with Rakhimov again assuming he came through Nunez, which is questionable.
I don't mind the Monaco shows but Cordina should have fought in the UK. Fighting in Monaco does nothing for his profile. Cordina vs Foster is the plan at Cardiff Castle but the money might be an issue depending on what Foster wants. Since Cordina wanted to fight Vazquez, Monaco probably made more sense than Cardiff especially with the hosting fee. Cacace was also offered to Cordina but he declined. If Rakhimov becomes mandatory I can see Cordina vacating the IBF as he wouldn't want to rematch him. Agree that Barrett would have lost to Nunez.
Tend to agree, some busy weekends like this one coming up I am annoyed to be missing out on the live coverage. This isn't one of them. Assume you'll give it a miss too?
