I don't see this angle. Ngannou will outweigh Wilder by 40 to 50lbs, walking forward throwing and landing thudding shots. 270lbs of functional brute force is no joke for a thin 220lb fighter. I don't see why anyone would be convinced at this stage that the discrepency in power between the two, would overshadow the likely discrepancy in durability. Ngannou is almost certainly more durable than Wilder. That difference in durability and strength will lessen any advantage Wilder has in power. Factor in Wilder was beaten to the brink of death against Fury, and will have fought one round in the 2 and a half years since then by the time he'd step into the ring with Ngannou, with huge question marks on how much he even has left at this point after taking back to back maulings. I don't see why anyone would be confident in a Wilder victory here. Not saying he shouldn't be favored, but Ngannou is bringing plenty to the table in this matchup.
I hate saying this, and I wish for nothing more than Wilder to prove me wrong, but I think people need to go back and rewatch the Fury fights of Wilder 2, 3 and then Ngannou. I hate saying this, but Ngannou is arguably a better boxer than Wilder. You factor that in with his own power and what appears to be decent durability, and a big size advantage, and this is not an easy task for Wilder, imo. The one thing Wilder had over Ngannou would have been explosiveness, speed and the ability to thread his right hand at just the right time to find his killshots. Speed, explosivesess, and timing. Three traits that at age 37, and borderline retired, will almost certainly be highly diminished by the time he's in with Ngannou. As a Wilder fan I actually don't want to see this fight lol.
And was always a coward. Pretty much in agreement though, of the big names he'd be the easiest for Francis on the basis that he's technically lacking and has an overrated chin and overrated power.
Strike while the iron is hot. Wilder should call out Ngannou, repeatedly. Wilder, winning by KO or by really dominant fashion should revitalize his career. While AJ should re-bulk and call out Fury, repeatedly. That was somewhat a blueprint back there, AJ and Ng are the closest to each other.
Ngannou is being overrated. I really like him. But Fury didn't train. I don't believe he had a real training camp. He didn't take him seriously.
Ou contraire... Wilder absolutely WILL call him out. Repeatedly. And then make sure it never happens. Maximum attention for minimum risk - generate hype without having to take the dangerous fights, then knock out a bum and claim you're being avoided because "bombs"... It's a pattern throughout his career. You can bank on him doing the same again.
Legit against who? who has he ko'd? Foreman ko'd Norton, Frazier, Moorer... who has Wilder ko'd to be on the same level? An Old man with a heart condition who never beat anyone either... 86th ranked Malik Scott who was diving anyway? Struggled against 34th ranked Taxi driver Duhapas Dude is a total hype job, hiding with the belt making defences against total bums
Would this be a boxing match or MMA? I have seen it referenced as MMA, which seems like an impossibility to me, but am curious if there's any clarity on that. I'd be happy with Wilder/Ngannou or Wilder/Zhang. Both of those fights are better than Wilder/Ruiz, imo.
I think it is the discrepancy in ability that will overshadow the discrepancy in durability.. Other than looking like he had boxed before Ngannou showed very little skill in the fight. He was one dimensional and slow, There were four or five rounds where he barely landed a punch although some of that blame has to go to a reticent Fury. Overall, there just wasn't very much coming from Ngannou to inspire any confidence.
I don't think Ngannou is a more skilled boxer than Wilder (Ngannou wouldn't have been so competitive against a 2018 Fury, wouldn't have schooled Stiverne and Arreola on the backfoot) but Ngannou's chin (especially now) is far superior, he's a year younger, much fresher, his strength on the inside is insane and he's got big power in both hands. Duhaupas was able to get close to 2015 Wilder with his size and chin, it could get very ugly for Wilder.
And this is likely what would happen. Fury ain't a puncher, he's a boxer who uses mauling tactics on the inside. And he's been sloppy the last 3 years............Wilder is nothing but a puncher, and a very fast hitter. You don't chase a puncher around the ring, you're gonna get clipped, and someone who has no real defense other than a good chin is gonna clipped hard. I don't even like Wilder but he'd ice Francis.............like completely ice him. Hell, so would Joshua (even this incarnation), Zang, Hrgovic etc
Wilder wins. Listen, Ngannou can fight, that is obvious but he is not a top 10 HW boxer just because he won some rounds against Fury. That said, Ngannou KILLS some guys like Joe Joyce and probably beat someone like Chisora and Whyte.
