FOTC FRAZIER VERSUS MAX SCHMELING OF THE FIRST LOUIS FIGHT

I picked Frazier. One of the reasons why Louis lost to schmeling the first time was because he tried to box him and was telegraphing the dropping of his right hand every time he threw the jab. Frazier didn’t fight like this and wouldn’t. He would swarming all over schmeling bobbing and weaving and throw hooks to the head and body. I suspect this will end in similar fashion to Frazier’s first meeting with Quarry

Max doesn't have a chance. Not a chance.

 

Frazier but Max would have his moments. Max was a pretty fair prize fighter.

IMO people who hold up FOTC Frazier as being this all-time unstoppable monolith don't factor in that some of that stems from his animus against Ali. He wouldn't have that kind of mad on for Schmeling.

 

Frazier would be all wrong for Max, he simply couldn't discourage Joe and gets taken out. Probably viciously around the 7th or 8th round.

 

Hard fight to call, imo depends on if Frazier could take Max’s right for all those rounds. I’m leaning towards yes

 

Louis did not drop his right hand,after throwing the jab he failed to return his left to the guard position,leaving him open for the right hand counter. Schmeling had spotted this watching film of Joe fighting.Jack Johnson had noticed it too, and predicted Max would ko Louis.

The very best of Frazier would destroy any version of Schmeling within 8rds at the most.

 

Too much speed, activity, too much front foot dynamicism for Max to contend with. He didn't have the quicks, the feet, size or frankly power to deter Frazier. Ali didn't even have those that night and he was leagues ahead of Max in all departments (yes, even power). Max hit Louis squarely with a hundred right hands before he went down.

 

Louis was a certainly a more static target than the bobbing Frazier.I think Max would find it appreciably more difficult,landing his right hand on Fraziers head.

 

Max was a terrific fighter with great skills and an extraordinary will to win. A true Champion in the true sense of the word, and that goes for inside the ring and out of it. A Legend!
That said, the "Smokin" Joe of that evening would smoke any fighter, anywhere. That Frazier was behond anyone else, a true phenomenon that would drop the Devil himself that evening.
