At least pertaining to a modern day standpoint, Jermain Taylor is probably the poster child for too many flush shots, and ill effects. Every loss Taylor suffered was brutal, hell even his tough wins he took way more shots than he should've. Currently he's in prison and still being sued and leaking money from losing civil suits left and right. I don't see him even surviving to an old age at this point. I think the original question is downright silly TBH. The reasons are all the cautionary tales around us.
Instructions for a caual: 1. Rewatch the fight without Pacquiaos baby d in your mouth 2. Learn how to box so you can have perspective. 3. Hop off Mannys D and give your mom a turn. Floyd was sparring the whole fight. It was too easy Floyd was switching up between walking Manny down and making him chase nothing. Floyd still landed more shots by a significant margin and the fight was never close.
Honestly not my fault you quit boxing, now you post on a forum thinking your feelings are relevant. You don't have a perspective on the fight because you never made it passed novice level and now you want to act like you know more than HOFers like Floyd. Floyd was beyond comfortable in the ring with Pacquiao. Later rounds Floyd spent most of his time walking down Manny. All those saying Floyd would run were bamboozled when Floyd looked stronger and controlled the ring from inside and out. You can cry about made up stats but you're too soft to rewatch the fight and see how easy it was for Floyd to secure a UD. Watch how you talk to me, I am not your mother.
They should be, and why wouldn't they? There is no grand narrative and larger than life aura to boxing anymore. No Eugenics, roaring 20's, political and sociocultural relevance. It's just business with a mix of personal and national pride in the mix.
By the way, I think most people are afraid of brain damage. Those that are not, probably already have it.
Floyd did not throw one combination in that fight, so worried for what he would get back being on his bike was his only option, the one thing he achieved that night was survive an injured old Pacquiao, what a milestone to behold hahaha.
Damn calm down bro instead of asking cj to hop off have you at least gotten "off" yourself first hahaha Where is this Floyd walking down Manny? Post the link & let's see for certain or was this just in one of your imaginary go too dreams after the fact.
Who quit what are you going on about? Was you the one had the moderators close the other thread because it hurt your feelings so much? Wouldn't surprise me & they say boxing is corrupted but your types can't handle the truth here so they got to do the dirty work and cover them up here too, hilarious boards.
This. The lack of poverty in today's world makes a huge difference. Life is easier now and people have more money and amenities. When you agree to a boxing match you are literally entering combat. Somebody is going to punch you as hard as they possibly can. If you have other options it's wise to explore them.
I think it's perfectly natural not to want to be turned into a brain-damaged vegetable Also, generally speaking very few people like getting hit Why? Because it hurts But some fighters are just hardwired to go to war Take Brits and Mexicans for example You stick two Brits in a ring with each other, especially on hallowed British soil, and you're all but guaranteed a FOTY contender The same goes for our fellow fearless warrior iron-jawed counterparts from Latin America the Mexican brothers The irony is British Slickness is the gold standard of slickness and unlike the American school of slickness it's a skills based slickness not a fear based one. Running, holding, ducking below waist level and stiff-arming to avoid getting hit is heavily frowned upon in gyms on our shores and likewise just by British boxing fans in general Any young aspiring boxers out there should study at the British school of Slickness or go watch tons of footage of elite of the elite true slicksters/honorary Brits like Loma and Usyk who actually rely on nothing but pure skill to avoid getting hit.
Floyd was fighting scared the whole fight, even his Trainer/Dad Floyd Sr is heard yelling at him " Why are you fighting scared son, you're losing this fight you know" LOL Anyway with what happened at IV gate with Floyd cheating 24 hrs before the fight with illegal saline drip in his own home, that debacle should have been made a N/C & Floyd suspended at the very least. Floyd couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag LOL Hows school doing ??
Most likely that would explain him imagining Floyd walking down Manny hahaha, the child brain isn't developed at that phase.
You and @C.J. are both being unrealistic. Although Floyd won wide on the cards nearly every round was tight with only a punch or two separating the fighters, honestly. Floyd dictated the pace of the fight (generalship) and that goes a long way in convincing judges "who's in control". Just ask yourself, did Floyd v Manny look more like a Floyd fight or a Manny fight? It was clearly a Floyd paced fight. Irregardless Manny held his own albeit still lost. I think 8-4 was fair but there was never a time in the fight where Floyd walked Manny down lol
