You don't hear too much this expression anymore....

Joe Louis has to be the number 1 at this.

Tyson is one of the best too, but the Douglas fight maybe says otherwise.....

    Tell me a few names.....

I guess it’s obvious but Jack Dempsey is right up there - Willard being his absolute poster fight for possessing almost literal killer instinct.

Sugar Ray Leonard had great killer instincts and knew when to finish his opponents the moment they got hurt.

Gotta go with Jack Dempsey...especially with the Jess Willard fight in Toledo on July 4, 1919...

Uhh, great one, never thought of it and yeah he was up there with Louis to me now that I think about it !!

Ruben Olivares and Eder Jofre were two from the lighter divisions that I thought about it now.

    Duran
    Arguello
    A.Pryor
    Leonard ( Ray)
    Tyson
    Monzon
Hagler( especially after the 1st Antefermo fight)
    Hearns
    Chavez
    Gomez
    Zarate
    Mugabi
    Frazier
    Foreman
    Cuevas
    Napoles
Cooney ( some would say those ko's came against past prime fighters, that's true, but it's also true he did what he was supposed to do against past prime fighters. )
Those are just a few off the top of my head
    But there's been many .

Odd how no one has mentioned Sugar Ray Robinson yet. I don't think he had it any less than Louis and Dempsey did, in fact you could argue he wanted to hurt his adversaries more than they did. The way he hit guys was just mean and violent, he wanted to make every punch count and hurt, even a jab, he was a mean spirited and malevolent SOB. I don't buy the ''he didn't like the violence of boxing, but its science'' shtick. Look at the final rounds against LaMotta and tell me that he doesn't want to ****ing murder him.

He is one of the greatest finishers ever. When he saw an opponent seriously stunned or hurt he capitalized and poured on the offense. Pryor vs Arguello 1, Dujuan Jackson, Kim etc. 35 kos in 39 wins for a reason.

Willard was fine. He drove he and his wife back to Kansas a couple days later on rough roads and archaic suspension. Lots of guys get brave when they can stand over a fallen opponent and hit them as they rise.

I have to admit, Marciano was a guy who didn't spend one second of a round trying to win the boxing match. It was all about extinguishing the flame opposite him.

That was the rule at the time, it wasn't something that only Dempsey was allowed to do.

How? Even when he's in boxing mode like against Arguello he wanted to jump on you at any opportunity.

But also Max Baer - in the literal sense.
