How do yous think Prices record would look if he had the same resume and opportunities as Wilder? It’s widely known wilder is terrible fundamentally but has amazing stopping power whereas Price had decent skills and also very powerful he just lacked a decent chin (Wilder was also stopped by feather fisted fury). Price was mentally shot after Tony Thompson and wilder was appearing to have a mental breakdown after Fury defeat with the allegations etc. Also it’s best not to forget Fury ducked Price earlier in career. I think using wilder as a measuring stick for fury’s success is silly considering wilders only fights of note are fury… not counting Joe Louis’ former sparring partner Luis Ortiz who is almost a fossil. (That was an old joke not a fact btw) What’s everyone’s thoughts? I’m trying to gather a picture of other peoples opinions of how a boxer is rated despite career path, padded records and favourable babysitting from WBC. No one rated Price as elite but Wilder is often referred to as one of the top 3 or 4
Price usually gave value for money. He could really bang but had his vulnerabilities... so always guaranteed to see a KO. Unfortunately for Price, from what I've heard over the years he could never replicate his form in the gym on fight night. Some fighters are incredible behind closed doors but can't put it together under the lights. I think Price used to burn a tremendous amount of nervous energy before some fights (e.g. Thompson) hence why he was ****ed after a few rounds.
Price would have collected several Ls, 3 against Fury, 2 against Ortiz, Arreola, Stiverne 1, and Duhuapas. He would have beaten probably everyone else which shows how paper thin Wilder’s resume is. Most of the top 15 would beat everyone on Wilder’s resume bar Fury and maybe Ortiz. It’s the weakest resume I’ve ever seen for a heavyweight with 10+ title defences.
You’re also forgetting Price had no stamina. He’d have been ironed out several times. Loved Price but sadly he just wasn’t that good. To add to the list by someone above, Helenius would’ve ironed him out too. There are probably others that would’ve beat him. Wilder himself would’ve hospitalised Price in a round as much as you might want to **** on him.
Ooh, a hypothetical. if David Price had Wilder’s resume he’d be considered possibly the hardest punching heavyweight of all time, a HOF lock and his name forever etched into boxing history through his Fury trilogy.
If you go through Wilder's resume and then put David Price in there with the versions of the fighters that Wilder faced at the time. I have him getting knocked out by the following fighters that Wilder beat: Artur Szpilka Bermane Stiverne 1 Luis Ortiz 1 and 2 Dominic Breazeale He does not get to fighting the likes of Fury with losses against those fighters. Price had pigeon lunged stamina and also appalling punch resistance but he had a A grade power punch on him.
He probably loses to a good few really. Wilder doesn’t fight scared and actually throws the big shots. Price is like a daddy long legs, has the venom but no mechanism to throw it
His vulnerabilities never shown until after the Tony Thomson fights and if he fought the calibre of people at that stage that wilder fought that would never of been an issue. Confidence and mentality in boxing are massive and he would have been full of it knocking out cans. Thomson was a good solid fighter who was underestimated and he never recovered mentally. Look at the difference in AJ’s mentality post ruiz. If that fight happened earlier in his career with the same outcome do you think he would of achieved the same?
It’s ridiculous posts like this that make me think that some posters on here are seat fillers conspiring to wind us up with these hypothetical scenarios! Here’s some more for you - Imagine Dubios had the movement of Loma how would he do in 60s hw division? - If Joshua was a flyweight do you think he beats the version of Prince Naseem that fought Kevin Kelley? - If Mike Tyson was 6’6 and Mexican do you think he beats everyone on Joshua’s record? As you were…
He did early on so what you on about. He went through the british scene like a hot knife going through butter. Looked beastly when he was destroying audley harrison in a round and sexton and others
That wasnt the question, the question was if he fought the same people in same situations what would his record of been…
Can you ask the question in a different way? perhaps write it on a post it note then stick it on your fridge?
