Yeah the Bellew wife and kids / Dean *surname* stuff is one thing but the stuff said about Smith can have life changing consequences
I liked Adam, seemed a nice guy and great passion for the sport. Dropped the odd clanger but only added to his "resume" as they live to say, bellew bomber nickname explanation pure partridge moment. And the man showed nerves of steel when chisora was lashing tables whilst Eddie's was karking it
Boxings definitely a better place with him in the sport. I hope he's been able to get his Darts scoring knowledge up to scratch in the time he's had away from the limelight too, I didn't mind him when he was commentating on the World Championships at all, it was only the finishing combo's that tripped him up which is fair enough when all the other commentators are seasoned at it or ex players.
It looks like there might be legs in the Adam Smith joining Dazn rumours. He's very close to Katie Taylor so will be there tomorrow night but there are also apparently 'talks ongoing' for him to join the platform. He would certainly strengthen their broadcasts.
I can already hear the 'beep, beep' sound of reversing from the matchroom fc fanboyz who have been slating him for the last couple of years
Can't fault his enthusiasm for boxing even if not everyone likes him. I think he did a good job commentating and on that RINGSIDE program that was a must watch at the time.
You could see him doing "shoulder content" like a Ringside show, which would work very well on social media (as long as Bellew isn't involved) or even presenting the shows which he'd be fine at. Just as easily though, you could see Costello going back to the radio and saving some face by presenting Matchroom podcasts or something like that. THOSE ARE ARUM PUNCHES REG!
Get him in at DAZN UK. Boxxer was always a disaster and Ben completely and utterly failed signing the some of the most boring fighters I've ever seen. Who thought getting Lawrence Okolie, Hughie Fury, and Joshua Buatsi was a good idea? Financial disaster!
Let's hope Matchroom / DAZN UK hires Adam Smith and sends Mike Costello back on the radio. That's where he belongs.
Jim Watt will first of all be remembered for an excellent partnership with Reg Gutteridge over several years. They worked really well together. They where commentators to the Tyson vs Holyfield I event on Sky Box Office November 9th, 1996.
Remember it well. I was out and didn't sign up for the PPV but then Sky showed it in full shortly after. It kind of felt like a bigger event having the ITV commentary team on a Sky show!
