Lewis had a better jab and had infinitely better boxing brain, timing, distance control, punch selection, power variation and many other things, but most of all he fought like a real champion and not like a scared second grader.

If the only opponent people can try to claim you avoided is Chris Byrd, you know you have a pretty good resume.

Lol, what a ridiculous proposition. Byrd never fared well against tall guys with a good jab. Just look at what Wlad did to him and Lewis was a better boxer all around than Wlad with an even better jab.

In any case, Lewis won everything he was supposed to and was on his way out of the sport at that point anyway. He had nothing left to prove, certainly not against the likes of Byrd. As he said, there will always be another guy some people think the champion should take on. If Lewis had fought Byrd, some morons would say "oh yeah, well he ducked X". If he had fought Byrd and X, some morons would say "oh yeah, well he ducked Y". If he had fought Byrd and X and Y, some morons would say "oh yeah, well he ducked Z". On and on and on, it never stops.

If we were to apply OPs logic, Lewis should still be active today, at almost sixty, and he ducked every top HW from 2003 onwards. OP is a rabid Fury fanboy, and while he accuses the last undisputed HW champion with 17 title fights to his name with ducking, he worships a fat coward who has more kids than title fights and who ducked more top opponents than he fought :D

    Absolutely hilarious.

If you believe any of this true, you need to see more tape on Lennox Lewis.

Apart from being a better fighter, Lennox was a MUCH better athlete than Wlad.

Apart from a past it Holyfield who injured his shoulder.

Byrd had highly controversial decisions in all his world title fights vs Golota, Williamson = Most boring HW title fight in history, Oquendo, McCline.

Infact i had Byrd losing to Golota, Oquendo, barely had him winning vs McCline, the Williamson fight should've been a no contest an absolute disgrace of a fight.

People are living in a fantasy world if they think Byrd would beat Lewis.

Does Neetzschean, RedBeard, ShortRound, not get bored of constantly hating on Lennox Lewis ? Lewis retired over 20 years ago whilst this guy is still bitter because he retired as the best Heavyweight of his era.

Yet he'll defend Tyson Fury who fought an MMA fighter instead of Usyk, whilst Lewis had quadruple the amount of wins Fury has over ranked opponents you can't make it up.

Here's some more Lewis hate threads from this joker.

I saw all Lewis' career from the start to finish as well as Wladimir's one. Wlad was better athlete, quicker and harder puncher with better jab and light years better left hook. Also Wlad had better balance. Lewis was more versatile fighter with better inside fighting skills, light years better right uppercut and better killer instinct. That's it

I remember a Lewis interview where he said he did duck somebody but wouldn't say who it was.

Lennox would have KO'd Byrd. It would have been worse than Grant. Maybe bloodier than Vitali.
Up and down like a yoyo, ala Briggs.

Yep, that's how I remember it at the time. He was at the end of his career, Byrd was seen as boring and the style match up was seen as a mismatch. Nobody was demanding this fight.

Lewis was at the end of his career and his motivation levels were low, the Byrd fight simply didn't have any appeal, to him or the fans.

I personally am not a fan of Lewis, but I respect the hell out of him. This is a great post. Cheers, D!!!

    "Fury ducking undisputed"

    It's scheduled for February.

"There was also minimal public demand."

There was as much money on the table as there was for Rahman 1. Lewis gave a litany of excuses, none of which stand up to scrutiny. The most revealing is "it wouldn't be an exciting fight". Because Lewis wasn't confident of making it exciting.

    "Nobody was demanding this fight."

It was far more lucrative than the Kirk Johnson fight. But southpaws above Greg Gorrell level weren't on the agenda.
