James Toney vs David Benevidez

I love Benavidez but JT would counter him to death. From a stylistic point of view, Toney is the worst thing that could happen to Benavidez. Benavidez is a smaller less powerful Jirov that's right handed. He's not beating Toney.

 

You never know of course, but Benavidez seeems just like the perfect fit for Toney for the same reasons I think Canelo would excel against him.

He doesn't lack skills, but he's there to be hit and leaves openings and that was just the kind of opponent Toney thrived against. Not that Benavidez wouldn't have his moments but I just think he would leave too many openings for Toney.

 

Toney has the same hand speed and is better in every department except the jab. Benavidez isn't exactly hard to hit. Toney by clear decision.

 

See the Iran Barkley fight to know what will happen to Benavidez. I don't see an aggressive fighter winning against Toney especially at this weight(Especially if he actually trained properly). Roy won because of his athleticism, gameplan and outboxing the flat footed feet Toney.

 

Calzaghe is the one I'd give the best chance. I'd give him a good one, in fact.

Toney preyed on aggressive fighters he would dice up Benavidez just like he did Barkley.

 

Ok Benavidez may have looked great against Andrade but Toney was on another level. He’s beat anyone today at 168 (including Canelo), his defence was impeccable and I think he would dismantle Benavidez.

 

Toney would also be counterattacking much more and keeping it up a lot longer than Canelo would. David doesn't have much of a chance here.

 

Benavidez is a lot better than Barkley though.

 

Andrade has comparable raw athleticism, slippery ability and cageyness to Toney, but lacked the ring IQ to make it work under pressure. Toney is way smarter and more experienced than Andrade, not to mention having a better chin and a better counter puncher. He's just a much more well rounded boxer.

Toney wins a very comfortable decision picking Benavidez apart from the 2nd round onwards. Unless of course Toney show up woefully out of shape or is way past his prime.

 

I feel Toney is too techncial for this guy and he also has a granit chin. He would systematically dismantle him.

 

It wouldn't matter in the result, but Andrade has a lot more athleticism than Toney does.

 

I think Benavidez beats the current version of Camelo.
