This is a brawl that was much in-demand about ten years ago, but most would considered the soup now well and truly burnt. Scorched, even.

Charr, however, recently awarded the WBA heavyweight regular world title for (customarily) opaque and inscrutable WBA-ish reasons, wants to defend against the Zimbabwean-Brit on the Fury vs. Usyk card in Riyadh. The in-effect hometown fighter (Charr was born in Lebanon to Syrian parents and spent most of his life and boxing career in Germany, but now resides in Dubai) called out the man with a similar build and style on social media, going as far as to have a poster made up.

We await Chisora's response, but really this is a no-brainer. At this stage of the game he may not get another title shot period, let alone served up on a silver platter as this would seem to be (notwithstanding the risk of homecooking on the scorecards).

The last time I made a poll for this matchup was just over a decade ago. So long ago, in fact, that it predates the forum's switch in both ownership and software (meaning the original vBulletin poll is lost in the sands of time, making this one the first poll using Xenforo). I noted even then, in October 2013, how it already was a long thought about fight.

Omeirat, would've be a much better name for Goodfellas. I mean, that kind of sums Henry Hill up perfectly. He was a rat that violated his omerta countless times.:sisi1

Chisora stops him, he is simply the better fighter...

We could call this an example of "pretty privilege", perhaps?

I submit the case of Fredo. Lovable ol' Fredo Corleone. He's family. He's a son of Vito. Yeah, he was a sniveling cowardly opportunistic turd and committed the sin of betrayal as well - but fans are MUCH kinder to Hill in their general reception despite also being a traitor, and he's just some mick stranieri. (although I guess to be fair so is beloved consigliere Tom Hagen...)

All because people are shallow and most would swipe left on John Cazale and right on Ray Liotta. :ohno

No response from him yet, which is kind of insane.

This is literally the greatest chance he will ever have or has ever had to become world champ. Yes, there's a chance of being robbed if this goes twelve but - like you say, the smart money is on Chisora by stoppage and even should it go the distance it'll probably be so much of a hiding as to be robbery-proof.

Sure, we know Charr isn't completely shot to smithereens as he did knock out Nuri "The Albanian Tyson" Seferi a year ago in 2 rounds, but a) Seferi was always kinda mid and is 46 years old, b) Chisora has fought more recently, in a sloppy & lackluster UD over Gerald Washington on the Joshua vs. Helenius undercard and c) while Chisora looked awful that day, even the worst version of Chisora is simply a better fighter than Charr at his very best.

Also wth is up with the spelling of Chisora's first name? Looking through all my threads & posts on him over the years, it was always "Dereck" as that's what he was listed as on BoxRec and Wikipedia. Now they both say Derek.

Tons of articles in British media have one spelling, and just as many have the other. There are instances of him being called Dereck in the Sun, Daily Mail, Express and Star; that's also the designation on his IMDb page. But it seems the prevailing spelling to be found online now is "Derek".

His accounts on Instagram and X/Twitter both do feature the latter, but - I'm not 100% sure it's him running either of those, and not some administrator on his behalf (or even just fan-run).

It's a more interesting fight now than it was back then. Chisora has taken far more damage in his career and is a bit older, though Charr was shot four times a number of years ago and had a double hip replacement. Chisora's last two wins have been against 41 year old's and neither were convincing. 39 year old Charr is on a six fight win streak, albeit over an extended period of time and against very pedestrian opposition. I'd take Chisora by decision in a competitive fight.

The Diamond Boy's WBA reign will go down in history as one of the funniest in boxing.

If he looks even worse than he did against Washington it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility that we get a distance Chisora shutout (at least on reasonable scorecards, who knows about the judges in Riyadh)
