Hector Thompson for me. Man, I remember when he was cutting a mean swath through the jr. welterweights of the mid-'70s. Beating the likes of Alfonso Frazer, Pedro Adigue, Carlos Gimenez (3 times), Jimmy Heair, Shinichi Kadota, Nani Marrero, Rudy Barro, Lion Furuyama and Jonny Gant. The only two obstacles he couldn't get past were two all-time greats called Duran and Cervantes.

Fenech for me won a world title after only 7 fights, beat a whole host of tough durable fighters without coming close to losing. Was a 3 weight division champion should've been 4 but was robbed vs Nelson.

I consider his draw vs Nelson to be a win because of how wide Fenech actually won it, so based on that and his other achievements along with him rating highly H2H at his best for me he is the best.

    i say rose.

    fenech was also great.

i've only seen 1 or 2 hector thompson fights, the man could fight but i think is a bit below rose and fenech.

    Not Darcy.

I think I have to Rose or Kostya. Probably Kostya.

    Anthony Mundine.

Well, that’s what Anthony Mundine thinks anyway.

I forgot they fought twice, I think I’ve only seen the first fight. It’s been so long. I guess if I have seen it I’ll get to enjoy it all over again.

Does Bob Fitzsimmons count even though he was born in England ? He was the first three division world champion

I’m not dumb enough to say this guy was the best, but he was my favorite when i was growing up, Michael Katsidis

    I go for Fenech.

After him, it’s probably Darcy and Griffo closest with Rose not far off. Jack Carroll, Dave Sands also up there.

I don’t count Tszyu, but if I did, he’d be in the top 1-3 I’d imagine.

There used to be a really high quality video of fight two on YouTube. I’d definitely recommend watching it if it’s still on there mate. It’s a very good scrap.

Strictly in terms of the quality of opposition he faced, Aussie Joe Bugner has to be right up there.

Looking to the future, Jai Opetaia might turn out to be the best of the lot. Anyone who can win a world title whilst having both sides of his jaw broken is rather special.
