My apologies, that was "murderers row"

I never could warm to conlon with the way he marketed himself to one side.

He may be a staunch nationalist, that's his business, but in my opinion, whether he liked it or not, he owed it to the people of Northern Ireland, to not be sectarian.

I know he technically couldn't help the crowd shouting "up the ra" but didn't he have one of his fights on in some park over near the falls road, and it was a big Irish festival.... Its hardly an inviting place for fans from east Belfast is it.

Agree about Carl Frampton, great boxer, and comes across a likeable guy, also good pundit while still proud of his heritage, Got to respect that.

It’s similar when a boxer from a 2 team city just wipes out half of his potential fan base by wearing his teams kit and coming out to their songs etc.

Fascinating place Belfast. Do they still have the walls up? It’s on my bucket list.

I've no problem with Conlan basing himself on a particular audience, it's a professional sport. I don't have to like the basis for it or Conlan himself, and would never buy a ticket to a show he's on for that reason; but he's not daft milking people like him while he can. People in that particular audience won't see it much different than Wood wanting to fight at his local football ground.

Frampton and McGuigan showed there are other, probably better, ways to do it.

I stand 100% by what I said. Don't like it? Not my problem.

Yep. Didn't feel the need to live in Celtic colours unlike a lot of their fans. In fact he saw out his career wearing pink! Other than his boxing style which was not always for the casuals (although the way he dismantled Limond showed what he can do) nobody had a bad word to say about him, and his fights weren't a neds night out.

I never even knew who he supported.

That's the way it should be when it comes to sectarianism

I guess, getting nearer back on topic, a partisan audience is about the only one that'll turn up for Conlan now given his recent form. And probably not a big one.

Sadly promoters will still see him as a ticket seller, hence Hearn's comment that retirement is "up to Mick" last night. Of course Matchroom will wheel him out at a Belfast hall one more time.

Yeah, not great that. I usually enjoy Beale’s posts. Nobody’s right or wrong regarding religion or politics on forums like this. It’s a boxing forum. I’m sure there’s other forums that can be used to reinforce someone’s political or religious views. Not great at all.

I know it's not exactly the point he was making but it would be hard to imagine, in this day an age, a show called "True Brit" like Lewis and Bruno put on. Britain has a great history in boxing, Team GB has prospered in the amateurs, but most recently the promoters have leaned much more on regional or even city-level followings.

It seems to sell more tickets if you're Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Leeds, Nottingham, etc etc. Even Fury-Whyte was effectively for a ridiculous WBC English belt on St George's Day.

Promoters are just reflecting (or milking) society but it goes against boxing history and that's a shame. And not political at all.

Felix Sturm has been in prison several times - i.a. for tax fraud.

Barker should have joined Sturm in prison for ticket fraud when he fought Sturm.

A complete disgrace of a man with no shame at all and I refuse to listen to a conman when he speaks.
