That is hilarious. If it hadn't been obvious for years boxrecs "algorithm" can be influenced with envelopes stuffed with cash, it should be now. He was ranked around #500 with 0-1-0 only last week. Other examples of this was when they completely rejigged the whole ranking system to keep Wilder in the top 3 after Fury v Wilder 2. Which caused a mess of all the other divisions as well. That was the start of the end for any pretence of legitimacy boxrec might have once held on to.
Yup, any coincidence that they had Frank Warren citing boxrec rankings in the run up to Fury v Chisora? With Chisora ranked in the top 6. The whole of boxing is crooked it seems. With people getting into the periphery of the sport with the long term goal of selling out. It's like that website Lineal.com which started out as a Facebook page claiming Fury was lineal champion after his drug fueled hiatus. Then to give it more legitimacy "someone" financed a fancy looking website. The whole sport is a sad joke nowadays. It's just promoters playing "might makes right" and "history is written by the winner". Flooding every information channel possible with mistruth. Everything is spin. In terms of rankings I used to like PBO, which was a true algorithm rating system based on results, but sadly it looks like they gave up a few years back. TBRB is probably the best these days
Very strange, he was a world class cruiserweight but he’s done little at heavyweight and lost to Otto Wallin. He’s a top 25 guy but he simply does not belong in the top 10.
This exposes 1 of 2 things. How boxing is weak or Ngannou is just that good. I haven't the wisdom to say.
Right , and the result was ngannou plug and play brought the #1 wbc world champion on the edge of a defeat . He deserves his ranking .
And Dubois ranking at 4 is very dubious. Actually it makes sense, he had a close fight with Fury (I thought he deserved to win).
How Ngannou would be ranked if the fight ended in a draw? According to sound logic - certainly better ranked than with one defeat. How would Ngannou be ranked if he beat Fury? According to sound logic - certainly better than with one fight that ended in a draw.
Boxrec ratings are made based on the fighter's results, and the results of the fighters he faced (and eventually beat). There is no way that a fighter with only one fight that ended in defeat deserves to be in any position below 200. As said, he was close to position 500, which is correct.
Because of his good performance against Fury, he won the hearts of casual fans and casual fans work on the Boxrec website...
Just look at the other boxers in the top 50: all of them, except Ngannou, have between 10 and 30 fights with very few or no losses. Those who have fewer fights won against ranked fighters.
