I agree. Couldn't see him getting past the monstrous Bob Stallings who Shavers failed to beat.

Oh, yeah... what cus did padding everything for Floyd makes Floyd look bad. But you are correct, Sir.

Shavers could've used a guy like Cus. Perhaps he wouldn't have had multiple losses to such obscure no-names.

But who are your number 4, 5 and 6 then if all these guys are not there ?? I got curious now. You gotta have at least Foreman, Frazier or Holyfield or Tyson aming number 4, 5 or 6... no ?

Perhaps. Cus would put him against a 0-0 contender... and we would see it different.

My top 4 would be Ali, Louis, Holmes, Lewis, which i'm quite comfortable with then it becomes a bit muddled for me. Foreman didn't have alot of wins against notable names but the wins he did have are some of the most significant wins of all time, where as you have a fighter like Wladimir who did have alot more wins against ranked opposition but no real stand out wins in there so it's quite hard to rank them.

Overall as i said my top 4 are.

    Ali
    Louis
    Holmes
    Lewis

And then the other 6 for me in no order would be......

    Foreman
    Wladimir
    Tyson
    Marciano
    Frazier
    Holyfield

I'm not a fan of Wladimir but he did make 23 title defences and 8 of those fighters were undefeated at the time. There's no name on his resume that makes you go "wow" but wins over Byrd, Haye, Povetkin, are good wins. And then you have some more filler like Brock, Peter, Chagaev, Jennings, Ibragimov, which are solid wins.

I think he deserves a top 10 spot based on his achievements, i've seen some people rate Liston above Wladimir which is a little of nostalgia kicking in there. Liston only defended his title once and whilst he did have some solid wins before he become champion, i don't see how he warrants being in the top 10 personally.

You maybe lost some money in the Rahman fight then, I suppose.

Wlad is great and I always liked him. We are comparing him with other greats though and his record has some issues. I should rate him higher though, considering his dominance, that was quite impressive no matter how bad his competition was...
    I always found Liston overrated.

Cus only advised Patterson to avoid guys like Liston, Machen, and Folley…. His number one contenders.

I’m sure they would’ve taken their chances against the fearsome 20-24 Bob Stallings.

For the record, I am not disputing at all that Shavers is below Patterson as a fighter, obviously. I even included Patterson there in my list. I have many reservations on Patterson as a HW though, as most also have, I am not in the minority here.

What the hell did Tunney ever do at heavyweight?

    Here's how I see it.

    1. Ali
    2. Louis
    3. Lewis
    4. Holmes
    5. Foreman
    6. Mike Tyson
    7. Holyfield
    8. Wlad
    9. Frazier
    10. Marciano
    11. Dempsey
    12. Liston

You have some names reversed but all in all we kinda agree on spirit. I like that you rank Tyson high but makes no sense to put him above Holyfield... Evander proved to be better than him as a fighter not only because of their fights but their racing sheet when the dust was settled !
What Lewis did that Holmes didn´t do, for Lewis to be above him ?
I understand Wlad above Frazier if you value dominance... but the fight of the century win tops that, to me, but that is fine. Your list looks pretty to me except Lewis which is crazy talk to put him at third, but he was always ranked well around here.

Oh, and Gene Tunney has big signature wins that should count a lot (I value big wins in big fights, you gotta be mentally strong to beat a guy like Dempsey in fights that big)
