Boxrec ratings were supposed to work without human hands, based only on the algorithm's calculations.
When we do not jump the theme again that fury is totally shot or forgot completely how to box overnight , than its a fact that not many humans on this planet would be able to do with fury what ngannou did with him that night . Another reason for his high ranking will be financial - the world is eager to see ngannou again and his rating opens the door to world class high value oponnents/ high pay fights. That said i somehow agree with you that it feels strange to put ngannou that high with a 0-1 pro boxing record .
Boxrec is meant to be algorithm based. There is no where is the algorithm as they describe it that would give a result of Ngannou #24. The algorithm had him at around #500, with the loss, in the last few weeks. So logic suggests something else is going on. Highly probable that his rankings has been purchased.
I could be wrong but I heard boxrec has human input nowadays. As opposed to the old notion that it was completely numerical
The algorithm might think he has a 100% rate of fighting champions and therefore counts for a lot since that is impossibly high for any regular boxer, who knows.
It hasn't been based on purely resume and results for many years now. They replaced the original algorithm in 2020, a few days after Wilder dropped down the rankings following his loss to Fury. The new algorithm was no longer ranking based upon resume as such, but instead designed to predict which fighter would beat who in a hypothetical match up. Almost like an algorithmic gambling odds creator. The rankings became based on the idea of we predict X would beat Y if they fought, therefore X is ranked above Y. It certainly looks that way. Or we can say for sure that at the very least a human changes the algorithm to get specific outcomes, which kind of defeats the purpose.
lol Those were MMA fights which include kicks etc. What the hell are you talking about, compared to an elite boxer Stipe only has average boxing skills and Gane would be destroyed in a boxing match v Fury, he lacks power, Usyk would box Gane and Stipes ears off.
I wouldn’t get too hung up on this. Small sample size can lead to these strange rankings. Nganu is a freak athlete but I don’t see him beating top fighters and defending belts. He will do a couple sideshow fights like the one with Fury and fade away. Don’t get me wrong, he beat Fury in my opinion and got robbed. He surprised me with his movement and stamina. Looked like a legit fighter in the ring and didn’t fade as expected. I was rooting for Nganu and would love to see him KO a few HW big names but don’t see it happening. He’s a very likeable guy and easy to root for. Glad he got the payday in boxing he never got in UFC. It would be fun to see him fight Wilder. Wilder can be a little chunny, and is not a good technical boxer. Nganu has a great chin and has thunder in those fists. That would be a fun fight and he would have a legit shot.
It might be true that gane he would get his eares boxed off by usyk , not sure . But you can be sure ciril gane has WAY more physical power than usyk . In a bar fight usyk would loose against gane ;-)
Not really relevant in a boxing ring is it? MMA guys would crush boxers in a street fight but they would lose in the ring. It’s simple. Usyk would destroy them all, including Ngannou, in a boxing ring
