Toney vs McCallum feels like the closest we’d get to seeing the type of fight the Black Murderers row would’ve put on.

I find these things hard to do, as there's nothing better than seeing a great fight as it happens, rather than from a collection years later. I know everyone like to think it was better in their day, but so many of those great nights were watched on repeat by most fans. So growing up as a boxing fan in the 80s, we felt spoilt with the Fabulous 4 and all that, but the fact was we knew the results when getting ready for school (e.g. finding our Leonard had beaten Hagler) and had to watch the broadcast later that evening- or a day or two later. Not quite the same.

It was much better being a fan in the 1990s when we could watch virtually every fight live and they happened on a Saturday instead of them being on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (like so often in the 80s). So being a fan at the time of the likes of Nigel Benn, Lennox and Evander...fights like Eubank-Watson 2, Toney-McCallum 1,Carbajal vs Gonzalez 1, McKinney-Jones, Chavez-Taylor, it was hard to beat that experience- and the build up and finally getting to watch events unfold, with mates as part of a great night out (or a night in when their folks were out in earlier cases).

I've given it some thought. The ref threw out Norman stone, golota hit Ruiz when he was down, Norman had to watch from the dressing room, and jawny got the decision in a foulest fight.

My uncle said he wishes it was a 15 rounder, I told him I'd rather bang my head against the wall but I've learnt to appreciate this fight reffed by Randy Newman.
