I wanted to add a positive thread, so what is your favourite boxing moment of the last 10 years, within a fight, after the fight, outside the ring, whatever? But as I am also an unabashed cynic, so what is your least favourite too? For me they both involve Mexican-American fighters. My favourite was seeing Andy Ruiz Jr. realize that the referee had just stopped the fight against Anthony Joshua and jumping and spinning for joy with a massive grin on his face. It reminded me of the reaction that your child self would have. It was a pure moment of sporting glory with history being made as a guy overcame the odds to reach what every young boxer dreams of. I was genuinely delighted for him. (time stamped below) This content is protected The image of Usyk on his knees cradling the belts, and the Rd 12 undertaker resurrection by Tyson Fury, ran this very close. In direct contrast, My least favourite was seeing Ryan Garcia's reaction to stopping Luke Campbell in a non-title fight: orgasmically flailing around in the arms of his coaches (which looked a lot like dry humping). It really rubbed me up the wrong way. (time stamped below) This content is protected One of Clarissa Shield's entourage attacking James Ali Bashir is up there too as a particular ignominious moment. So what about you?
If you think Garcia celebrating his win over Cambell was bad watch Wilders celebrations when knocking out no hopers as a Champion with multiple title defenses.
Fury rising to his feet in the 12th in the first Wilder fight. The shot from Wilder was so fast and it was a beautiful combination. His dance afterwards followed by the pure disbelief in his eyes as Fury rose was an incredible moment. A truly epic fight between two iconic heavyweights. The honourable mentions for best moment would be Usyk beating Joshua the first time and crying in the ring. Least favourite would have to be Rolly’s disgraceful stoppage win over Barroso. An absolutely shambolic and blatantly corrupt decision, it shamed the sport of boxing. Other notable picks would be Joshua’s meltdown post Usyk 2, GGG being blatantly robbed of the victory in the first Canelo fight, seeing Ugas crush Pacquaio, and Ward’s low blows against Kovalev (in what was otherwise a very improved performance from him).
In six days this event will be more than ten years old but it qualifies as of now. Marcos Maidana repaying the insult by dry humping and defeating Adrien Broner made me unnaturally happy. That was my favorite moment. My least favorite was Jeff Horn beating Manny Pacquiao. It made me sad to see one of my favorites being beaten by someone who would have been no trouble at all five to ten years earlier.
My fav moment is when Cotto beat Margarito second time around. My lowest was when Roy Jones was concussed in which I believe by glencoffee johnson, just seeing the mental turmoil on his face, sheer torment.
But he didn't really beat Margarito. Cotto was fighting an opponent who was blind in one eye from round 2, which both the ref & doctors knew about & still couldn't beat him legitimately. It wasjt until Cotto started to gas out , just like the first fight, that the doctors stopped the fight. Margarito was beating his chest yelling " Lets FIGHT Cotto". That fight was stopped to save Quitto Cotto quitting on his knees AGAIN!!!!!!!! Pacquaio permanently damaged Margarito's eye by busting his eye socket but did Margarito Quit ?? Hell no he was still fighting at the final bell. I was ringside
You don’t say! Still my pic after all these years! And also, who can forget this gem?!!!!! Superpimp Adonis Chickenson vacating his titles. This content is protected As for least favorite, there’s a big pool to choose from, but the most recent one I’m still butthurt-city over is the Loma/Haney decision.
Broner vs. Maidana barely qualifies. As of next Thursday it's officially more than a decade old. GODDAMN THAT IS UNSETTLING.
Part of what makes that one sweet is if you look in the audience when Broner humps his back all his fans are smiling and jumping around like it was the best thing ever. Fast forward to when Maidana returns the favor and those same A holes looked all shocked and were like WTF. Cant make that **** up….
Maidana bumming broner, dropping him, taking his crown and the ensuing menes and joy of boxing fans everywhere...it was glorious
I would have said Victor Ortiz beating Andre Berto to win his first world title but that's been longer than 10 years, so .
