By cleaner fighter, I also mean guys not taking unallowed substances. There was a good thread here these days about Monzon allegedly fighting on juice (ephedrine and such most likely, which is what people used Back then)

Charlie - re my post you quoted - that there was a joke I say.

Of course Floyd was one of the cleanest (and nicest) ATGs ever.

The incident I described was real and actually served to exemplify Floyd’s sensitivities and compassion.

After half heartedly punching Ellis to the body, Floyd rubbed the targeted area as if to say “sorry about that”.

Floyd Patterson, Salvador Sanchez and Alexis Arguello are the first to come to mind. I don't recall them using dirty tactics.

All good my man. If I had read it as being for real I too would’ve been mortified.

He doesn’t fall in as an ATG, but from what I’ve seen, Zora Folley was an incredibly clean and considerate fighter also.

In one fight, Zora landed a beautiful straight right hand on Oscar Bonavena at the bell - Ringo was going down for all money but Zora caught and held him to prevent him from falling.

In boxing, it was quite an extraordinary move on Folley’s part.
