Anthony Joshua says he lost his race to be the unified champion when he lost to Usyk and has now given up hope of ever achieving it.

Interesting comment and one that makes me think he doesn't plan on being around that much longer.

He'll be around forever. This means that when Usyk retires he'll be content to b e company champion and milk it until he's 40.

Joshua's hunger seems to be diminishing by the week and he is probably only one conclusive loss away from retirement.

If he needed the money I'd agree with you. But he is still struggling to convince himself he is fighting for legacy but fast coming to the realization that it is all slipping away.

First the Ruiz debacle killing the US dream. Then Usyk beating him twice and the pointlessness of trying to avenge those defeats. The chance of unification, gone. The Wilder fight gets marinated for so long neither has a title anymore and they now have 5 losses between them. The risk of fighting Wilder hasn't been removed, just most of the meaning behind the fight. It probably won't happen anyway.

Sooner he should unify his neurons disjointed by Ruiz and Usyk.

He's a dummy who said he wants to achieve being a "3x HW champion" like it's an achievement that he got smashed up losing belts he was merely keeping warm so many times. Luckily Hurgovic will be the man he has to fight to get a belt and Hurgo would chin him...not before Wilder does first though.

Fury will have beaten 3 legitimate reigning standalone champions all of whom are worth their weight in salt in Wlad, Wilder & Usyk. all of whom were effectively unbeaten.

Meanwhile what has AJ done or beat to claim 3x champ like it's an achievement. Belts mean nothing. Who, when & how is what matters.

    Cashing his chips
If he beats Wilder he will make one more attempt at the big one, but I think he gets smashed

I think Fury's about to suffer a confidence crisis of his own soon enough too....

Then we will have a Fury-Joshua-Wilder merry-go-round while Usyk makes a soft defence and cashes out and retires.

AJ is spot on. Realistically, after the IBF strip the winner of Usyk and Fury and they both inevitably and imminently retire , it won’t be in anyone’s current career span to unify 4 belts. It’s never happened yet at heavyweight and over two decades since Lewis and Holyfield managed to unify 3 belts (for a few weeks).

The winner of Fury-Usyk will of course unify the belts but as you say, for only as long as it takes the IBF to strip them as soon as they aren't defending against the IBF mandatory next fight.

Hypothetically though, if the loser of Fury-Usyk 1 retires, the winner might actually defend against the IBF mandatory and keep the belts together. But that is almost impossible to envisage happening. Particularly as the retiree is unlikely to make that decision in quick enough time.

If Joshua beats Wilder and Fury beats Usyk, then we will get Fury vs Joshua

'If' is the biggest word in boxing and should rarely, if ever, be used in the same sentence as 'then'.

I still feel like it would be great if AJ and Fury win then they fight or Wilder and Usyk win and they fight.
