Two elite light heavyweights with world class jabs. Kovalev certainly is the bigger puncher while Bivol is the more agile and elusive fighter. How does everyone see this going (prime vs prime)?
I liked Kovalev more. A few things that Kovalev does well, like control range with his feet, bivol does a bit better. Hes also has a higher work rate and, has not shown any mental deficits in the ring yet. Kovalev on the other hand is more accurate, powerful and was an absolute menacing ring general before Ward. If Kovalev can slow him down with jabs or straights to the body and dictate a measured pace to place and land his big shots he can knock Bivol out. But if Bivol can control range with his quicker feet and stay outside of Kovalevs power range(the end of his punches) he might take it. Only question mark is bivols inside game and if he needs one to beat Kovalev.
For me the top 3 LHW I've ever watched are RJJ, Hopkins and Bivol so by that account I have to go with Bivol.
Kovalev wipes him out. If Joe Smith is landing a bomb, Kovalev is landing many. And Bivol is going down and not getting up. Kovalev could also outbox him because he's better in that regard also. One of the biggest tragedies in boxing is when Kovalev's counter right didn't fully extend on Ward's face. If the distance had just been a little more ideal, Ward would have been KO'd and the whole world would have turned out differently.
Damn! Ron Simmons style. 3x LHW champ bro, beat guys giving away more natural size. You can name 50 better? Damn.
Kovalev is more proven so far. Bivol also doesn't go to the body which is Kovalev's weakness. Equally good boxer, bigger puncher, better jab, don't see how Bivol beats him.
