I've been busy with work this weekend but just watched the entire main card and what a performance by Sunny Edwards ! He can hold his head high and be proud of himself. I'm sure he won a lot of new fans last night.
It was a good fight. But it was evident early on that Rodriguez could pretty much walk through Sunnys shots. It was always kind of predicted that at some point in his career that this would be a problem, and so it transpired. He gave it a good go though.
Sunny Edwards deserves huge respect for heroic efforts last night. He remained standing in the infight situations and actually boxed the fight on Rodriguez's terms. What a fight by Sunny Edwards !
Come on, use your own brain please The actual words or phrase he uttered isnt relevant Whatever he said lead to the fight being stopped. As a fighter you know what to say and what not to say to keep fighting or to chuck it Sunny come to the corner, Grant smith began pepping him to go out for the next round. Instead of accepting this and taking his instruction for the upcoming round, Sunny chose to move to Grants ear and whispered his get out phrase whatever that might have been and the fight was off. If sunny didn't lean in and whisper to Grant he would have been out for another round. Sunny did not want that so he got in Grants ear and got him to call the fight on his behalf He quit Undisputable fact
The Doctor was also a disgrace in that fight. Basically checked his eye was not on the canvas and allowed him to carry on.
Bit mouthy for me but he backed his mouth up last night and no shame in losing to a very good fighter.
And yeah maybe because of the eye he stood a tried to trade more so than hed of liked But balls to the wall and all I dont hear any excuse just him stating What was evident And wanting to improve Hell come right back After a little lay off over crimbo
Just watched this. Found it odd that he went toe to toe and didn't use lateral movement. Especially as he was never gonna make a dent in the fella. Was fairly even until the size(he looked massive) and power took over in the second half. But he still had moments in the later rounds. Rodriguez very accurate with his punches but it didn't help that he stood Infront of him. Had to mute the clown cheerleading team as they were just awful again.
People saying "didn't hear any excuses" etc. The first thing he said was he couldn't see out of his eye from round 2. Yes he did quit, didn't protest to either the referee or the corner. It was a team decision and probably the right decision. A brave performance nonetheless but Bam is a level above anyone he has fought so far including Mthalane who was decent 11 or 12 years ago. He can come again, stick to his boxing and stink out the place for the casuals like he usually does.
Making the right sensible decision isn't always quitting. Dubois is however the epitome of quitting v Usyk. He was also, however, not quitting but sensible v Joyce. These are two recent main high profile examples via one boxer of the two variants.
That was my point. He quit the fight but it was the smart thing to do. Not a decision out of cowardice.
