Agree with this, I see it as a MD/SD win for Opetaia. Gassiev was a beast but I think Opetaia is a special fighter.
Gassiev was very, very good at CW untill Usyk took his soul. I think Opetia would have had a harder time than Usyk did against prime Gassiev, but would still win by clear decision. Like 116-112
Opetaia beats the inactive and totally injury-prone Gassiev of nowdays. Not sure how the fight went if that was prime Gassiev at CW.
Opetaia's last two performances might have looked destructive, but they were against opposition several levels below him. His best win is a close fight against an inactive, post-prime Breidis too For all we know, Opetaia could've cleared the 17-18 WBSS or could've fallen in the semis or quarters. I think he would've beaten Gassiev though, who looked extremely limited against Usyk and Opetaia's style isn't something Gassiev could really capitalise on with his power. Who knows
Im a fan of Opetaia but looking forward to seeing how he handles elite competition. Judging off the Briedis fight alone is not enough
It’s still amazing to finish the two of this fighters in that fashion. Before Breidis he had a limited record. the last two fighters were solid Brits that the likes of Billam-Smith and Okolie may beat but not anywhere near in that fashion.
Bump because it’s an interesting fight, if Opetaia fights how he usually does, putting everything into every punch, he’d load up that left hand and at some point, Gassiev would time him with that left hook at some point and clean him out, Opetaia needs to vary his punches more, if he could do that and be more unpredictable with his attacks, I’d pick him in points.
Opetaia quite easily, if Wallin overcame Gassiev with his pillow fists, then Opetaia would have made it even easier...
If Opetaia Boxes then he wins an 8-4 or 9-3 type decision. If he goes in there and tries too hard to stop Gassiev he probably gets caught and stopped.
