Is Wilder going out of his way to come in too light? He weighed in at 213... one of the lightest weights of his career at 38.
Wilder has the body type where it takes effort to gain weight. If he trains hard and eats a lot he can gain some. Obviously he doesn’t do all that anymore.
Wilder was fine. Wilder was fit. Wilder was outclassed by a legitimate world level boxer who came in with a very well thought out plan and executed it perfectly. Wilder is just not that good.
Didn’t he mysteriously lose a lost of weight when they bumped up the PED testing? Also, I agree Wilder is a little light…he’s light on boxing skills. Relying on KOs to bail you out against cherry picked opponents only works for so long. Wilder made a great living fooling people into thinking he was better than he was. He started late abs was very athletic and strong but he was one dimensional.
Wilder came in against Fury 1 lighter. His weight is fine, it’s his skill he needs to work on, but it’s too late for Wilder
Russ Anber, who used to train Wilder along with Breland mentioned how much of a challenge it was to make Wilder eat and train properly to keep his weight around 220 lbs. Now that Wilder pretty much decides everything himself such as his diet and training I doubt he’s eating enough calories to keep his weight where it should be. Also, although I like Malik Scott and Malik Scott admittedly knows a lot about boxing I think he’d make a better assistant trainer than a head trainer. Wilder needs to swallow his pride and get a real head trainer if he can still find one.
The weight had nothing to do with it. I always preferred him light as he had more stamina and still maintained is knockout power.
Wilder is basically a pot head now So his weight will keep dropping off till he becomes a cruiserweight Either way that gameplan Wilder was using relied on Parker getting sloppy whilst Parker's gameplan was the opposite of getting sloppy. Wilder is lucky Parker didn't take a few more risks or he would have battered him far worse.
I thought that was a little light for a 38 year old Wilder but I doubt it made a difference. What I thought was revealing is how leery Wilder was to throw punches and engage with Parker. He fought like a man scared to get hit, so scared he wouldn't let his shots go. That could be the result of the last 2 Fury fights where he was battered which resulted in a defense at all costs style.
For fights Fury 2 and 3 he weighed 231 and 238 pounds respectively. He just needed to continue that trend. In the fight, Fury 3 performed well in every sense, even though it lost. He shouldn't have gone under 230 pounds, especially not under 215.
Utterly incapable of winning a round against competent opponents. Too old to be bailed out by that big right hand.
