Andy Ruiz has now not fought in 15 months, and since his win over Joshua in 2019 has only fought 3 times.
He has simply priced himself out of every fight, got too cocky after the fluke AJ win. TBH Wilder v Ruiz would have been the matchup to make, both inactive for a couple years, fighting Parker on the back of 4 fights in 12 months was just dumb.
He looks in decent shape, for Ruiz anyhow. It's all about pricing himself out of all the fights, waiting for that big pay day that will probably never come.
He's not finished, but he's rapidly becoming irrelevant. Ruiz seems to think he's still hot sh** in the division when the truth is many fighters have moved past him at this point. He needs to take whatever fights come his way instead of holding out for a big payday that's never going to come, but he's dumb as a box of rocks so I doubt that's going to happen.
With his height, reach and style, relien on speed of hands, I think, he is finished on top level. 34 years old, standing 5'11', nahh.. Short heavyweights burn out quickly. A shame, though, my favorite fighter, a small, fat man beating up 6'7'' men...
I think his future is inactivity, a few mid-tier fights and then a whimpering decline into retirement. However, as of right now I still think he's very much in his prime and could be good in the mix if he swallows his pride and actually tries to make some fights instead of sitting back and waiting for them to come to him like some overly-discriminating raja on his throne. He's still got his handspeed and timing, he looks to have some decent power, hasn't been in too many tough fights, and his chin still looks to be pretty solid (Arreola fight notwithstanding). A rematch against Parker, or fights with Ajagba, Sanchez, Anderson, even Wilder would all be good. There's lots out there for him if he goes looking for it.
As a business man, yes, he is a giant fool - bought expensive cars instead of investing his money, thus securing him and his family for generations.
I'm not ready to write him off yet. But would be nice to see him start fighting at least twice a year.
