When did doping and drug testing start in Boxing?

I was reading about the Tour de France, and this cyclist Joop Zoetemelk who is one of the greats.

Then I did come across the section where it’s mentioned he was caught for doping several times, as early as 1977.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joop_Zoetemelk

Apparently doping was something done in cycling around that time. If they tested for it by 1977 I think it’s safe to say they were probably doping earlier then that. Probably at least all throughout the 70s.

So that makes me think it was done in other sports as well as early as in the 70s. Like Boxing.

drug testing still hasn't started, doping started in the 1930s by the 50s it was replicable, by the 60s they were doing it in pro football and by the 70s they had invented a drug specifically for winning olympic sports in east germany known as turinabol and how they arrived there via all sorts of messed up experiments on women and children is published in a book full of smuggled east german experiments called "doping papers." the level of pharma/phys lit here is like -15 and everyone wants to play "mike tyson was definitely natty" games

https://voiceofsandiego.org/2009/01/29/the-63-chargers-and-steroids/ 1963 chargers using dbol to win the AFL championship

https://ethicsunwrapped.utexas.edu/case-study/east-germanys-doping-machine an article basically outlining "doping papers" and its contents to a degree. also summarized in "Faust's Gold," excellent resources for understanding clandestine doping operations, nationalism, money, and the intersections that create the necessity for doping.

In that case I get the impression that a lot of the greats in Boxing must have been doping since like at least the 50s.

You would be correct, but do not let anyone hear you! Now imagine they participated in a program that not only competed against but bested the most notorious doping program of all time.

I can't say for sure when due to the cloak and dagger nature of boxing but I think that top level pro boxers have known of testosterone supplementation since the 1970s.

Steroid testing in sports started in the 80's. Before that there was no effective way to test for steroids, steroid testing in boxing started in the 90's. I am an expert on roids, so this is a fact.

Steroids were widely used since the 40's and 50's. They were created in the 30's.
