"It is still better than Wilders."

We're splitting hairs. Vitali's best wins were Sanders and Chisora, Wilder's are Ortiz and Stiverne.

"He came back from a 4 year absence to win a title"

Wilder had one of the great heavyweight trilogies, is the most significant American HW this century thus far and broke the longest drought in the division's history. Is coming back after 4 years (much of it spent in the gym) to school Peter more HoF worthy than that? I guess we'll find out in several years.

"He has never beaten a top heavy."

    And Vitali did?

"Give me the fighter in the Hall of fame that the best result on their career resume is a draw."

I'll go one better: Vitali's best result was a loss! Would he have got in without it, with his only loss being the Byrd quitjob?

You had Wilder above Parker even after Ruiz had beat Joshua down! There's no way around these double standards Mitch:

    September 2019

Mitch: Wilder is the 4th best heavyweight as of late 2019/early 2020, above Parker (5th) and Povetkin (6th). Fury didn't beat Wilder because he got a draw in America and I'm sticking with the official result (even though I move the goalposts later and claim Fury won all three), so he's ranked outside my top 14 (below Chisora, Kownacki and Dubois), despite previously dethroning "ATG" Wlad and making Chisora quit.

Joshua's hadn’t beaten anyone inside the “top 20” since 2020 as of December 2023 and lost twice during that period, yet he's still in Mitch's top 2, above Fury. Since 2020, Fury had beaten at least three Ring top 5 heavyweights: Wilder 2 (2nd) Wilder 3 (3rd) and Whyte (5th).

You’re clutching at straws to make a case for Wilder. It’s not so much about Wilder’s resume which is horrific it’s because you want an American in the hall of fame whom is undeserving. Be honest about it. Let’s do a social experiment. Let’s pretend Wlad, Usyk, Fury, Joshua are all Americans. Let’s make them all black too. Pretend the division is a reflection of the 1980s Urban and American centric. Now that everyone is from the same country and looks the same. We can go solely on accomplishments. Wilder would be laughed at for trying to make the hall of fame compared to their resumes. He’d rate way below any of them on accomplishment. Fanboys WANT Wilder in the HOF. His resume doesn’t warrant it. Look at it from a color blind experiment.
As for Vitali his resume is better than Wilder’s plain and simple. I just went over them both and it’s clear advantage to Vitali. Sorry not sorry.

In the real world it's Wilder who had to shoulder the burden of carrying the American heavyweight division for several years, not those guys.

"I just went over them both"

Wilder would have a real problem if you controlled the selection committee!

10 consecutive title defenses against about the worst collection of heavyweights we've ever seen.

KO record against some of the worst collection of heavyweights we've ever seen.

He lost all 3 fights, they weren't competitive.

So? Why does American matter? Boxing is global. Best American doesn't really matter.

Who cares if he shouldered the burden of the American heavyweight. You could say that for anyone that represents their country.

I see you didn’t contradict my points because you can’t. Cheers

Yes Wilder would not get in at all if I was on the committee- 100 percent accurate statement. His merits fall short

Gatti deserves to be in the hall of fame merely for his contribution to boxing entertainment as a whole. He was also a pretty damn good champion in his heyday, fought all comers and gave most their toughest fights.

    1. Vitali

    2. Vitali

    3. 0-2 vs Lewis and Byrd, not even a controversial draw

    4. The HoF is based in America, in the real world it matters

You can't because they weren't champions for any real duration post-Briggs, only Wilder was.

    What points again?

    Cool.

I thought Cooney's loss to prime Holmes was one of the best losing efforts ever. Cooney was very game and at one point seriously hurt Holmes to the body. Cooney was tough as nails in this fight, was mentally strong, and demonstrated underrated boxing ability. Cooney's problems were mostly psychological and emotional and this contributed to his substance abuse which wrecked himself and his career. He put way too many demands and expectations on himself.

I agree, Cooney would have torched everyone on Wilders resume except Fury but he may have been very competitive

Michael Spinks also didn't outweigh Cooney by 30 pounds and he wasn't eight years younger than Cooney. (Like Parker outweighed Wilder and is so much younger than him.)

Could you imagine the damage Michael Spinks would've done to Cooney if he outweighed Gerry by 30 pounds and was eight years younger than him, on top of everything else?

Giving up 20, 30, 40, 50 ... whatever pounds ... FOR EVERY FIGHT ... for the better part of 12 years ... finally caught up to Wilder.

You can't give up all that weight consistently and knock out everyone to the end of your career.

Giving up weight was something Cooney never really had to do until his last fight against Foreman.

Cooney was the heavier man in all his fights, except two.
