"Fury had used drugs, therefore Wilder's performance against him means nothing/he gets no credit for fighting him" Isn't this the "logic"? Why doesn't it apply to the other addicts? According to the judges he won 5. But regardless of how many he won in our opinions, Wilder got a draw on record and did vastly better than ATG Wlad, maybe better than anyone will do vs Fury when all is said and done. A controversial draw doesn't equal a loss and had Wilder been given the nod, he'd be a big step further forward regardless of 75-80% disagreeing.
"Number of title defences is meaningless Sven Ottke" It's certainly not "meaningless" lol. How many heavyweight champs with similar numbers of defences didn't get in? "American heavyweight of the era shouldn't be a factor but it might indeed win him some votes." You proceed to destroy your Sven Ottke argument. "but he won't be a first ballot entry that's for sure." Probably contingent on other factors.
Byrd gets little credit with this forum though, most say he shouldn't get in. Even though with better career management, he'd have been a P4P ATG and a HoF heavyweight!
It does apply to them too obviously. Their careers were ruined because of drugs. I didn’t imply or even mention other boxers so i don’t know why you think I thought otherwise. Thing is though, fury wasn’t just addicted to drugs, he completely stopped working out and haven’t boxed in nearly three years. Wlad was nearly 39 when he fought fury. And Tyson hasn’t been in the same shape ever since his comeback.
Wilder will be in the Hall of Fame. Fury will be in the Hall of Fame. Joshua will be in the Hall of Fame. Usyk will be in the Hall of Fame, too, for his run at cruiser and, now, heavyweight. Wilder, Fury and Joshua will be in for basically running the division for nearly all of the last decade. They were the names. They were the story. The Klitschkos did that before them. They're in. Lewis, Tyson and Holyfield did that before them. They're in.
Wilder will probably get in but Parker won't (as it stands), Joshua will probably get in but Ruiz won't (as it stands).
