Herbie Hide vs. Michael Grant

Who would take this?

 

Close one.. I pick Hide early ko

 

Hide early KO. Both were glass cannons, but Hide was a quick starter while Grant was a super slow one (was knocked down like 10 or 11 times in the first round).

Grant was much bigger of course, but Hide was much quicker and had better agility/reflexes

 

Graht takes him out. This insanity must stop.

 

Name one decent fighter who Hide stopped early. Shot Tucker doesn’t count.

 

I'm not sure prime Grant was better than shot Tucker. Definitely far less durable

 

That just tells me that you weren’t watching boxing back then.

Grant’s run that included Izon, Savarese, Purrity (at his best), Golota and Al Cole was legit.

Hide did nothing to even distinguish himself from Izon, Savarese, and Cole. Those guys put together better resumes than Hide, nevermind Golota and Purrity who obviously did.

 

Cole fight was close and Grant didn't look impressive at all in that fight. 40-years-old Witherspoon beat Cole far easier than Grant did.

Izon was average fighter who lost to 17-years-old Maurise Harris. Guys like Vaughn Bean and even Gerald Nobles easily KOed the same version of Harris.

Puritty was very tough and durable, but very limited at the same time. Savarese was borderline top 20 fighter at his very best.

Also, Grant struggled badly against Wooden and against Golota he showed nothing except of heart - he literally got beaten like a drum.

Hide of course was very vulnerable himself with his glass chin and not good defense. But I think his strength (speed, power, aggressiveness) would mix well with Grant's weaknesses, who also had a glass jaw and was extremely slow starter.

 

1. Cole actually won a cruiser belt and put together a nice reign. He drew with an undefeated Kirk Johnson when he moved to heavyweight. That’s better than whatever Hide did.

2. Izon won silver at the Olympics, gave Tua a tough fight, and beat an undefeated Derrick Jefferson and Lou Savarese. Better career than Hide.

3. Purrity likely would’ve knocked Hide out.

4. I’m no big fan of Savarese, but running Foreman close and beating Lance Whitaker is better than whatever Hide did.

5. Wooden almost beat Tua. He wasn’t a bad fighter.

Hide was basically a homeless man’s version of David Haye.

 

I'd go with Grant. Hide always seems to get overated in hypothetical match ups despite having a really poor resume.

 

Grant was a manufactured hype job and the only advantage he has on Hide is his size. Hide grinds Grant down and wins by a late tko imo.
