Best uppercuts in every division?

Much as I love Frazier, not sure he deserves a mention here. Though his uppercut-hook combo was definitely underrated.

 

I thought Povetkin's uppercut of Whyte was even better. Plus it literally happened in the promoter's back yard.

I have it in the back of my mind that at some point in time, there was some governing body or geographical region, where the rules dictated that if a fighter suffered a cut, then their opponent automatically had a point deducted, in an attempt to cancel out the perceived disadvantage.

Now that, hypothetically, could cause a dilemma. Close fight, final round, punch yourself in the face, causing a cut. A literal application of the rules could see you win the fight as a direct result of punching your own face.

The rule was if a boxer got cut from an unintentional clash of heads the other guy would lose a point.

It wasn’t a punch thrown from the inside short arm punchers like Tyson and Frazier threw but a long leading punch thrown from the outside.

 

He would've left himself wide open for a left hook from Tyson with his far greater handspeed

 

At heavyweight, I've always liked Lennox's. Pinpoint accurate, sharp, and devastating. Guys like Tua, Morrison, Mercer and Tyson all found out the hard way what it can do to pressure fighters.

At light-heavy, Spinks has already been mentioned and I certainly wouldn't disagree, but a few of my favourites had absolutely devastating uppercuts at 175. Marvin Johnson, for instance, as well as his two-time conqueror, Saad Muhammad. Ezzard Charles could also lay a devastating uppercut on an incoming target.

At middle, it's a pretty tough ask, as I can't even remember an uppercut KO at 160 off the top of my head. Heart immediately said Hagler, though, and I can't see why not.

At welterweight, it has to be Napoles. What a beautiful boxer, and his strategy of swaying back then stepping into an uppercut with the reversal of his momentum was dazzling. Or dazing in the case of Ernie Lopez.

At lightweight, it has to be Duran. That little sneaky uppercut upper the middle, on the inside was nasty and he pulled it off every single time he got inside. Not to mention the shovel hooks to the body he could use.

At feather, it just has to be Saddler. There's not even very much competition IMO.

At Bantam, the name which jumped out at me was Zarate, and I think the next best is probably Jofre. I can do distinctly remember Zarate looking for the uppercut against Amores and when he found it, it was devastating.

At flyweight, I'll have to think about it, but I reckon Avelar is in the runnings.

 

Maybe Jack, I was simply commenting on his uppercut though.

Moore / Spinks at Light Heavyweight.
Hopkins / Hagler at Middleweight.
Armstrong / Napoles at Welterweight.

Self induced cut - a bit of a fight club fight thing going on there.

Wow, that’s a strange rule, trying to quantify an accidental head clash cut and awarding an offset in the form of a 1 point deduction against the opponent.

Along those lines, I would’ve valued the head bump that Holy have Rahman at an offset of at least 10 points...if not the whole fight.
