Let's just say that the nickname ''Raging Bull'' would have been more appropriate for Holyfield than for LaMotta.
Holyfield was once approached by a technician who worked for Toyota asking him if he could volunteer to be a live human crash dummy. He was let go after the first attempt because he ended up destroying the windshield when he was flung from his seat. A Muy Thai fighter once sparred with Holyfield after boasting about how durable his hands were from years of conditioning hitting trees. The sparring match was stopped after the 1st round because the Thai fighter broke his hand on Holyfield's forehead due to an "accidental" headbutt. Holyfield was so good at headbutts he would make billy goats clap if they could. Legends say every time Holyfield is about to deliver a headbutt, he winks at his corner. His corner would then aim a flashlight at the ref's eyes.
Holyfield is as innocent of intentional headbutts, as Marciano was innocent of all his alleged non Marquess of Queenberry rule breaks. "Guilty on all counts"
Holyfield was a master at slipping in the dome and making it look like an accident. Any one of those times could be given the benefit of the doubt and be argued to have been an oopsie. But when it happens every friggin fight and its always the other guy getting murked it's time to face reality. Of course he did it on purpose.
He used his dome as he used his fists. His head in some fights was basically a third fist. He didn't make a career out of it though. In many fights he fought clean. There was no head attacks in all the Lewis and Bowe fights from what i remember
I remember in the Byrd fight after 3-4 rounds Byrd walked back to his corner and told his dad Joe Byrd, "he's using his head like crazy!!"
