    Bingo.

It would've been "this is no different from what Wilder did to Ortiz - survive, survive, survive, bang... Except Parker's better than Ortiz and didn't come as close to stopping him" Etc, etc.

Make no mistake, Parker would've been Wilder's best win by a mile - and I'd have given him credit if he'd managed it without robbery, even if he'd been dominated right up to the KO...
Because as you say, "he's just Wilder" - that's just what he does, he doesn't outbox anyone halfway decent, he just survives and flips it with power.

With better ring IQ and punch selection, you'd think Wilder should've been able to do something, anything, to throw Parker off his tactics - or at least make him have to think or adapt.
And a genuine world's level fighter shouldn't be so one dimensional or have such a huge skills deficit - perhaps that's the point here, that we're looking at this backwards...
Perhaps it's not a case of wondering how a world class fighter could look so utterly hopeless, but more that it's a triumph that such a limited fighter could manage to create the illusion that he was anywhere near that level in the first place?

Maybe Wilder's slightly faded with age, slightly rusty...
But look at all the narrative before the fight - Parkers not been looking too special lately and despite being much younger, all the talk was about Parker being the declined and borderline finished fighter, not Wilder.

So was Parker even at his best?
Did he even need to be? Or was this just a classic case of "levels"?

    You're all overthinking this

The actual answer is very simple

Down Under boxing is just far superior to US boxing

The real answer is Fury sold Parker Wilder's mojo which Fury has a jar of.

    :qmeparto:

    Which Wilder was prime?

The one that needed a long count when knocked down by Sconiers, who had lost 17 of his previous 20 fights?

The version that struggled against C level Szpilka and was outboxed for the majority of the fight?

Or the one that was knocked down half a dozen times against feather fisted Fury? (Coming off a drug fuelled retirement). Not to mention he should be 0-3 against the gypsy fraud (who went on to get slapped by a UFC fighter).

    Let me know!

"I'd still favour Wilder now vs that 2018 Ortiz"

2018 Ortiz wasn't far removed from beating a mentally and physically prime Wilder, he'd be favourite against a physically faded and mentally shot Wilder who's been run over twice and checked out since 2021. According to James Ali Bashir Wilder was putting weights in his pockets to weigh 213 lbs, many commented that his legs were skinnier than ever.

"He was being called a gatekeeper after the Joyce loss."

Nothing has changed in that regard. If Parker had made a mental leap then he'd have stopped Wilder, who was there for the taking and just trying to survive 12 rounds. He's still the Chisora 2 Parker, or the Joyce Parker in better shape.

"I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in Wilder's next fight."

If Wilder were to come back and beat Ruiz then Parker's win would age well. I cannot see it though. His heart isn't in it anymore and he should just retire. The only Wilder fight left that holds real intrigue to me would be an Ortiz trilogy. Ortiz is significantly more physically faded but I think he's still mentally strong and probably still has a lot of power.

The 2008 pro debut Wilder would have KO'd 2023 Wilder, in my opinion.

Fury has feather fists and is a fraud now. Parker is the real deal, though...

    Smh... enjoy your moment.

Nice try, I’m one of Parker’s biggest detractors you bozo

So tell me, before Wilder had his china chin exposed, who’d Fury stopped?

Cruiserweight Cunningham? The same Cunningham he had to foul and hold to wear down :qmeparto:

Are you laughing because It's funny how Parker failed to stop a shot, china-chinned Wilder and couldn't even put him down?

I think it's even funnier that everyone who said it was impossible to avoid Wilder's right hand for 12 rounds actually saw it happen.

Wilder got schooled by someone that lost to Joshua - did that hurt you?
