Tua stopped Moorer in one round but Galento dropped the great Joe Louis .

Now if Joe had being caught by Tua s hook in that fight, well he may have not climbed up embarrassed..
    Just a thought.

Tua actually KOed Moorer with a right hook, and Moorer was well past his best. But most of his KOs came as a result of a left hook. Ruiz, Nicholson, Izon, Sullivan, Nicholson, Cameron, Maskaev and others.

And Tua definitely hit harder than Galento IMO

Tua not only had the harder left hook,
but also was much faster with it, and technically
    sound.
Not a comparison really, Tua was much better
    with it than Galento.
A much better and closer comparison would be
Tua's hook against Morrisons, Listons , Frazier,
or Tyson. Which can be debated.

I suspect that they are in the same general ballpark.

I don't think that Fat Tonys power is fully appreciated today.

I would personaly rate it in the top echelon of punchers of that era and by extension other era's. Lets look at some of the guys he knocked out:

    Don Red Barry
Barry had not been stopped in 47 fights prior to meeting Galento and fat Tony put him down for a ten count in the first round. He would not be stopped for a further two years and 30 fights before being TKOd by no lesser person than Joe Louis in the third round.

    Al Ettore
In his first 71 fights Ettore was only stopped by Charlie Retzlaff (a murderous puncher), Joe Louis and Tony Gallento. Of the three only Louis put him down for the count. On a side not Galento knocked Ettore clean out of the ring twice in the same round!

    Nathan Mann
In his first 57 fights Mann was only stopped by Joe Louis and Tony Galento. Fat tony accomplished the feat more quickly getting the stoppage inside two rounds.

I'm tired of seeing people like @Flash24 belittle Galento power

Ya got me. When I was a little boy my foot got run over by an ice cream truck and the pain of missing out on that vanilla cone sprinkled with almonds was worse than the pain of my flat foot. Ever since then I swore to pay back every ice cream vendor, and, since ice is nearly ice-cream, Galento must suffer the fate that awaits him.

People in here are acting as if neither guy was just “a” contender. Neither was an invincible juggernaut like Tua has become or a dancing bear like Tony is brought out to be. It’s very debatable which guy was better, I’d lean towards Tony personally he was a professional of his time which counts for a lot and a showman.

Didn't belittle his power friend. Just my opnion
he didn't have the power of David Tua with
    with the left hook.
Of course Galento had power in the punch.
He did drop Louis with it, as well as a few
other notable heavyweights of the era.

I have no agenda or personal bias ,
just facts as I see them from film study
    and history
    of the combatants being compared.
    Nothing personal .
Tua probably hit harder with the
left hook than maybe 3-4 heavyweights in the
    history of the sport.
It's no shame for Galento coming in behind
him when compared to power in the left hook.
    Certainly not belittling.

Galento's hook was a frikkin joke. It was a wind up arm punch with no leverage or technique or explosiveness. All of his punches were a joke. His uppercut was literally just him lifting his arm into the air. Tua is overrated like hell on these forums but at least he could punch properly. And he was leagues more powerful and explosive.
