Awful news, I was really expecting the Hrgovic fight or maybe even the Zhang match. Doing this after having a solid 2023 is ridiculous.
I wouldn't be surprised if its true, seems like the highest reward vs the lowest risk cf. the fights vs Zhang and Hrgovic. It will be interesting to see if Ngannou's performance in the Fury fight was due to poor preparation on Fury's part (or Fury being shot), as opposed to Ngannou genuinely being underestimated. If there is one good thing you can say about Joshua it's that he is a professional, so unlike the Fury fight we won't be left wondering whether the outcome is due to him going on a month long bender before the fight.
It's actually smart from Eddie Hearn AJ has legit power which will hurt Francis... He beats Francis then Fury beats Usyk Makes Fury AJ much more marketable and a massive fight again. Risking AJ against Hurgovic (which they need to wait till IBF strip Fury for anyway in Feb) so AJ would have to wait to summer to fight. Saudis will pay decent money for AJ Francis in March. That's a win really. I hate Eddie and AJ's a bum, but it's smart moves.
Fury's legacy would be totally destroyed if Joshua easily KOed Ngannou. All his best opponents couldn't win a single round in the last event.
Apart from the fact Fury is not a puncher like AJ Most people would expect AJ to stop Francis Deosn't change anything but makes people talk Fury AJ up and AJ doesn't have to take a big risk in Hurgovic for less money for a single worthless belt. Also means no matter the Usyk Fury result, AJ can take a decent money fight for no risk in March! No waiting around. It's a pretty easy clear decision on paper and only people who are broke ugly and poor will cry about it. & people who STILL don't understand the fact that boxing is a business are dumb
Joshua no longer cares about titles, but only about money, Hrgovic needs to fight and not remain inactive, the goal is to bring Hrgovic to a land mine so that he loses to someone and loses his status, all this is a risk for him, but unfortunately that's the way it is...
