How good could Kell Brook have been?

I had Kell up against Spence until the headclash. I think commentary did too but I'd have to double check.

edit - yeh he was ahead

Going up to fight Golovkin was brave but super dumb. He was never the same.

Dude looked like skeletor when he fought Crawford, lost weight far too fast for that one and clearly was short of water on the brain. It showed too with the KO.

I think we saw his ceiling in honesty. Good fighter, just a peg below Spence/Crawford.
He made some awful decisions in his career though.

He had a good career did Kell, only lost to p4p greats. Ended his career on a high with one of the performances of his career (albeit against a past it Khan).

Took his shot at greatness by moving up 2 weights, suffered that eye injury and was never quite the same again.

His IBF title reign was horrible, and the Khan fight was beyond meaningless legacy-wise. The Porter win was good, but he really didn't have a single standout victory since - or before - that. Sure, he 'dared to be great', but lost every time, and I'd struggle to name the Top 5 people on his resumé.

Weird career, but of course successful in the scheme of things.

Yeah, sadly true tbh. Wouldn't disagree with much there. Other than Crawford, he did put in very good performances in his other losses. I wondered how his comeback would've been had he never suffered that injury against GGG.

Prime Brook was still a top Welter.

Based on what that screenshot tells us, Spence had already won the last two rounds, was already within a point, and was conceivably taking over the fight.

I think that fatigue played a major factor -even moreso than the eye- and that Kell simply looked for a way out when he realized he didn't have enough in the tank to get the job done. The fatigue may have been because of the weight cut... we can't possibly know.

Yeh, to be fair, despite the injury. I think Spence would of gone through the gears and finished stronger anyway.
Shame for Kell, he has a hell of a heart. But his heart cost him.

The Golovkin fight was gutsy , but he didn't seem to have any business in there at 160 with a very good GGG as champ.

He leaves a good legacy, however given his talent I think he could have done more; he wasn't the most professional outside the ring, and of course being stabbed didn't help his cause. Had he stayed at WW and never went up to fight GGG then I think he would have beaten Spence; I'm not sure he would have beaten Crawford though it would be a very competitive fight, as opposed to the fairly meek ending of Crawford vs washed Brook.

Very good fighter. But going up to MW to fight the iron chined , huge punching GGG was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen in boxing. He was never the same again.

I reckon he would have beaten Spence if he didn't fight GGG.

Hard to say, but I do know that he has the best win over Porter. I was real high on Brook since the Porter win cause I couldn’t stand Porter’s dirty fighting, so I was probably a little biased when he fought Spence, but it looked to me like his eye injury was genuinely the cause of him losing that fight.

Whoever let him go up and fight GGG should be punched, and GGG deserves a kick in the nuts for taking that fight.

That's the way, I have always viewed it. If he didn't fight GGG, he's definitely beating Spence and he's a good chance against Crawford but for me Crawford is one of those fighters who would dig deep and win.
I think his career would have been significantly better without the GGG fight.

He won his belt against Porter then his in the uk defending it against absolute nobodies. He didn’t exactly dare to be great facing GGG either. Eddie Hearn had set up the GGG v Eubank fight but Eubank pulled out, so to press on with the fight he offered Brook 5M to take the fight. It was a good fight I was there that night.

Brook had a great skill set but just didn’t beat the big names. He was in a WW division stacked with talent too.
