I'm still blown away that Brown and Kingpetch fought the same amount of time down to a day!

Is Jimmy Bivins the best to never get a title shot?

(SI, btw, is the famous publication that once made that proclamation on behalf of Bivins)

My thought was that Mushy Callahan refereed one of their fights but that's a bit offbeat and I'm not sure LaMotta qualifies.

Excellent guess but not it. Bit less obscure a fact.

They all made Ring Magazine's top 100 boxers list.

I believe they all did...but we're looking for something that puts the three that were champs anyway in very exclusive company. I'll not say definitively they're the only three champs this applies to, but they're the only ones I could find...so if there are more they're needles in a haystack.

Wow, forget the other two, just finding something related to both Kingpetch and Bivins is tough.

Alright, while we wait on @Fogger here's the next batch to tide you all over.

    Round Three:

    • ??weight/??weight/??weight/??weight?, 22 years, 5 months, 7 days
    • ??weight/??weight/??weight, 23 years, 3 months, 17 days
    • ??weight, 13 years, 1 month, 17 days

This time in lieu of identifying their divisions, here are more hints (that should provide some guidance in piecing it all together but hopefully not be dead giveaways)

Two held world championships at welterweight.

Two held championships in multiple weight classes.

All three had very good amateur careers, but two had stellar ones: 93% and 95% rates of victory respectively with hundreds of bouts (the third had a still respectable 89% with under one hundred bouts) - all three, however, lost in Olympic trials.

One may or may not be retired. The others are.

All have considerable hitting power, but there's a clear hierarchy between them. The most powerful (a pure dynamo a cut above p4p in their original weight class especially) is a boxer-puncher, the next a counter-puncher, and the least a volume swarmer.

And, per usual, there is a common element between all three; this has to do directly with their boxing careers.

    All four died of pneumonia.

Several other boxers also have, including Pat O'Grady (father of Sean), but I was hard-pressed to find any other world titlists besides those you guessed.

Is this to say, they lost at the trials to get in to the Olympics, or none of them took home the gold medal?

Poor @Fogger man, no way he pulled Newsboy Brown out of the bag and got told it's not the right answer
